Thirty four out of 36 Granulosa cell tumours (32 out of 33 adult and 2 out 3 juvenile granulosa cell tumours), all cases of sertoli leydig cell tumours, three of fibroma/
thecoma cases and one case of microcystic stromal tumour.
Ovarian
thecoma: clinicopathological analysis of 50 cases.
Edema may result in a soft consistency, and microscopic examination in these cases shows prominent intercellular edema, which sometimes erroneously results in the diagnosis of
thecoma. Edema, when conspicuous, may be associated with the well-known Meigs syndrome, named after the eminent surgeon-gynecologist who was chief of gynecology at the MGH in Dr Scully's early years at the hospital and the individual to whom "Morris and Scully" was dedicated.
Signet ring cell change in other ovarian sex cord-stromal neoplasms, such as fibroma,
thecoma, or luteinized granulosa cell tumor, tends to develop from luteinized cells, and thus the cytoplasmic vacuoles contain lipid, which can be highlighted with histochemical stains.
Endometrial hyperplasia in postmenopausal patients may develop in response to excessive estrogen, the possible sources of which are obesity, functioning granulosa-theca cell tumors,
thecomas, iatrogenic estrogen administration, or estrogen production by adrenal glands or the residual ovarian stroma.
There were two case of
thecoma, where one patient was of 20 years of age and second was of 61 years of age.
Ovary.--In cases of LGEESS involving the ovary, the differential diagnosis is mainly with sex cord stromal tumors and includes adult granulosa cell tumor, fibroma,
thecoma, and fibrosarcoma.
Observation of preserved follicular structures within an edematous stroma can help differentiate the lesion from fibroma and luteinized
thecoma. The presence of signet ring cells or other epithelial cells in the ovarian stroma should be carefully evaluated to exclude Krukenberg's tumor.
MMMTs have also been seen with chronic estrogenic stimulation (ovarian
thecoma, polycystic ovarian disease, and prolonged estrogen therapy).
The list of entities he described is remarkable: juvenile granulosa cell tumor, sclerosing stromal tumor, retiform Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor, small cell carcinoma of the hypercalcemic type, luteinized
thecoma associated with sclerosing peritonitis, and Mullerian mucinous borderline tumors.
In a study of ossification luteinized
thecoma of ovary with endometrial adenocarcinoma said that Luteinized
thecoma undergone massive ossification converting the ovary in to a bone.
The differential diagnosis includes sex cord-stromal tumors such as luteinized
thecoma, steroid cell tumor, and hilus cell tumor and metastatic neoplasms such as carcinomas and melanoma.
Double mucinous cystadenoma of the pancreas associated with
thecoma of the ovary.
Fibro
thecoma [2], Brenner's tumor [3], cavernous hemangioma [4] etc.
Ovarian sex cord-stromal tumors include pure sex cordstromal tumors such as fibromas,
thecomas, granulosa cells tumors, sclerosing stromal tumors, Sertoli cell tumors, and Leydig cell tumors.
