"What we are seeing at a large scale--and this was a surprise to me--is a very clear pattern that you would expect if the response to the last ice age were the primary control on the differential rates of
sea-level rise across the eastern U.S.," says Huybers.
White, 2006: A 20th century acceleration in global
sea-level rise.
According to the researchers from Rutgers University USA, under moderate emissions, central estimates of global average
sea-level range from 1.4 to 2.8 feet by 2100, another 2.8 to 5.4 feet by 2150 and 6 to 14 feet more by 2300.
A team of scientists has captured on video a four-mile iceberg breaking away from a glacier in eastern Greenland, an event that points to one of the forces behind global
sea-level rise.
A team of scientists led by an Abu Dhabi professor has captured the video of a four-mile iceberg breaking away from a glacier in eastern Greenland, an event that points to one of the forces behind global
sea-level rise.
To quantify what that would mean for people living in coastal areas, a group of researchers employed a global network of tide gauges to create probabilistic, localized
sea-level projections that assess differences in the frequency of storm surges and other extreme
sea-level events across three scenarios: global temperature increases of 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 degrees Celsius.
For example, Carl Wunsch, a highly decorated professor emeritus of oceanography at MIT, wrote about satellites: "It remains possible that the database is insufficient to compute mean
sea-level trends with the accuracy necessary to discuss the impact of global warming--as disappointing as this conclusion may be."
Each one of the
sea-level records referred to its corresponding annual mean.
And, more to the point of this article, how could we pay for the costs of
sea-level rise without letting our future drown?
"The acceleration in global mean
sea-level rise is much larger than previously thought," SE[micro]nke Dangendorf, the paper's lead author, told DW.
experiencing
sea-level rise that is above the global average, according to a report published Jan.
Airport altimeter settings are derived from the actual pressure measured at the airport, then adjusted for the known, surveyed elevation, to give us that "
sea-level equivalent" pressure.
26/8/2015, Eric Mack, Forbes -- Scientists attribute about one third of global
sea-level rise 3 causes (warming oceans, melting ice sheets and shrinking glaciers), but say that if the polar ice sheets begin to disappear more rapidly, that ratio could accelerate
sea-level rise in coming decades.
13 ( ANI ): A team of researchers have found that
sea-level rise since the industrial revolution has been fast by natural standards and- at current rates- may reach 80cm above the modern level by 2100 and 2.5 metres by 2200.
Sea-level rise is one of the most significant effects of climate change.
