This is notable in that, to the author's knowledge, no data exists evaluating the effect of SRIs on OSA in PWE, with the exception of one small case series in which
protriptyline, a norepinephrine and serotonin reuptake inhibitor, was used [38].

[70] Of somewhat greater importance are medroxyprogesterone and the tricyclic antidepressant
protriptyline, although both are still of limited clinical value.
For example, amitriptyline (Elavil) may make people feel drowsy, while
protriptyline (Vivactil) hardly does this at all and, in some people, may have an opposite effect, producing feelings of anxiety and restlessness.
The more noradrenergic TCAs could curb appetite (nortriptyline, desipramine,
protriptyline) similar to SNRIs, therefore countering some of the weight gain drive.
Those include mirtazapine, xylometazoline, fluticasone, paroxetine, pantoprazole, steroids, acetazolamide, and
protriptyline.
These include tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline, nortriptyline and
protriptyline.

Protriptyline, a tricyclic antidepressant that theoretically reduces the amount of REM sleep (and hence the number of apneic episodes), has also been investigated for OSA.
Maurizio Favio, director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Depression Clinical and Research Program in Boston, also recommended atomoxetine (Strattera), bupropion, methylphenidate, modafinil (Provigil),
protriptyline (Vivactil), and reboxetine for residual fatigue.
Some of the most frequently prescribed tricyclics are amitriptyline (Elavil, Endep), desipramine (Norpramin), clomipramine (Anafranil), doxepin (Sinequan), imipramine, (Tofranil, Tofranil PM), nortriptyline (Pamelor, Aventyl), amoxapine (Asendin),
protriptyline (Vivactil) and trimipramine (Surmontil).
