In this study, we found that the analyzed Dorstenia species not only have the same habitats and habits, but also exhibit similarities in their sexuality (
monoecy), floral biology (protogyny, stigmatic receptivity and pollen release for long periods), and dispersal (autochory).
The frequency distribution of sexual system was 82.3% hermaphroditism, 15.6%
monoecy, and 1.9% dioecy.
The low heterozygosity found in Fibrimon and Northern Lights could reflect the strong selective pressure necessary to maintain the main phenotypic characteristics of these varieties (
monoecy and high [[DELTA].sup.9]-THC, respectively).
Population genetics of partial male-sterility and the evolution of
monoecy and dioecy.
Deviations from this common pattern include spatial segregation of the sexes into different unisexual flowers on the same plant (
monoecy), unisexual flowers on different plants (dioecy), or intermediate combinations including gynodioecy, where female and hermaphroditic plants occur in populations.
The sub-divisions of these sections are based on a more detailed description of receptacle morphology and reproduction strategies (dioecy,
monoecy, male/female dimorphism or not), and to a less extent on the morphology of vesicles, holdfast or axes.

This type of reproductive system introduced demographic stochasticity that was not present in the cases of random-mating
monoecy, self-fertilization, or obligate asexuality.
Dioecy and
monoecy in the flora of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands: ecological correlates.
Large differences in the transfer probabilities for pollen from different flower positions can lead to the evolution of andromonoecy and
monoecy in sequential bloomers.
There are about twice as many monoecious (9%) and dioecious (9%) species in the Juan Fernandez Archipelago as there are in angiosperms as a whole (5% and 4% for
monoecy and dioecy, respectively; Richards, 1997).
A continuum in the separation of sex function underlies the diverse array of plant breeding systems, ranging from combined sexes in individual flowers (hermaphroditism) through separation of the sexes in different floral types on a plant (
monoecy) to a complete separation of sexes (dioecy).
Thus, seed fleshiness and dryness, respectively, constitute the two states of the second (independent) character, which is held fixed, whereas dioecy and
monoecy are the two states of the first (dependent) character.
Second, SC plants commonly exhibit floral traits, particularly the spatial or temporal separation of male and female organs (herkogamy, dichogamy, certain manifestations of
monoecy) that usually have been assumed to have evolved to reduce inbreeding.
