By analyzing the subcellular annotation of the
molting interaction network, the subcellular localization of 12 proteins was obtained.
Temperature was maintained at 21[degrees]C [+ or -] 1[degrees]C for 15 wk and raised to 26[degrees]C [+ or -] 1[degrees]C for the remainder of the 21-wk study to simulate seasonal change and facilitate
molting. Salinity was maintained at 28 [+ or -] 2 ppt using artificial seawater (Table 1) and light was 300 lux at the tank surface with a 16 light cycle/8 dark cycle.
Since the release of pheromones is linked to
molting in these species, metabolites that increase in concentration in the urine of--or in the water surrounding--premolt females have been reported as the potential sex pheromone, or one of the components of a pheromone bouquet (Kittredge et al., 1971; Asai et al., 2000; Hardege et al., 2011; Kamio et al., 2014).
Ancient Murrelets have been suspected of
molting flight feathers synchronously, thus becoming temporarily flightless at sea (Gaston 1992, 1994; Pyle 2009), but whether the timing of molt and chick rearing overlap has not been confirmed.
Molting is a physiologically stressful time for penguins because a great deal of energy is expended in the regeneration of new feathers.
Key words: common eider, home range,
molting area, migration, satellite telemetry, Somateria mollissima borealis, wintering area
however, without knowing general or specific locations of
molting, our ability to preserve adequate habitat for molt-migration stopover of land birds is compromised (Leu and Thompson, 2002; Heglund and Skagen, 2005).
Scorpion
molting and exuvia taphonomy.--Observations on ecdysis in modern scorpions support the criteria defined here of appendage position and body posture as diagnostic for distinguishing carcasses and exuvia.
ABSTRACT : An experiment was conducted to evaluate the physiological changes of laying hens subjected to feed removal during induced
molting while received probiotics in the drinking water.
This dimer binds to specific DNA response elements in the genes that code for the enzymes responsible for exoskeleton degradation such as chitobiase that are regulated by the
molting hormones (Zou 2005).
During the
molting process, even the outermost layer of skin covering the eyes will peel off.
A rare gene in a small number of species causes the skin to change colour during
molting, but because this makes the creatures so conspicuous, few survive.
Aquarium observations suggest that streamer tag loss, either through tag-induced mortality or tag shedding, is related to the molt stage of the lobster at the time of tagging, and the
molting event itself.
During the summer, lobsters shed their shells,
molting to grow into new and larger ones.
