The
ectocervix and endocervix have a three main skin layers or zones: * The basal layer--cells are produced here.
* Using pencil pressure, the brush is rotated five times in a clockwise direction (in order to ensure good contact with the
ectocervix, the plastic fronds of the brush are bevelled for clockwise rotation only).
Studies of immortalized normal human vaginal, endocervical, and ectocervical cultures and primary murine vaginal, endocervical, and ectocervical tissues suggest differential TGase 1 expression; TGase 1 is expressed in the vagina and endocervix but not in the
ectocervix. To further investigate TGase 1 activity in estrogen-responsive epithelia and its potential role as a differentiation marker in these tissues, this project entails an immunocytochemical study of TGase 1 expression in five cultured human cervical carcinomas with an anti-human TGase 1 mouse monoclonal IgG (BT-621).

* OBJECTIVE We studied the anatomic changes that occur in the
ectocervix after cryotherapy and the role these changes play in the adequacy of follow-up colposcopic examination.
Narbothian cysts, which are plugged, distended cervical glands, can sometimes be seen on the
ectocervix. If there is excessive mucous the cervix can be gently swabbed so that a more accurate Pap smear can be done.
Colposcopy and directed biopsy of any abnormal area on the
ectocervix constitute another appropriate option (BIII).
Specimen adequacy: The cervix must be properly visualized, and both the endocervix and
ectocervix should be thoroughly sampled .
From the SCJ marker status, they proposed that SCJ-positive subset could be derived from "SCJ cells," while SCJ-negative subset came from
ectocervix or distal part of the SCJ cells.

ectocervix and from the posterior lip of the

All the lesions of the uterine cervix involving
ectocervix and endocervix were included and lesions arising from the body of uterus, vulva, vagina, and neighboring organs extending in cervical canal but not involving cervical tissue and parametrium were excluded.
Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) describes a precancerous lesion of the squamous epithelium of the
ectocervix. The cervical cancer screening paradigm in the United States begins with collection of cervical cytology with a Pap smear, frequently in conjunction with human papillomavirus testing.
Clinical samples were collected by scraping the
ectocervix and endocervix of each patient with an endocervical brush, smeared on a glass slide (that was fixed immediately with polyethylene glycol for cytological examination) and after stored in a buffer solution (EDTA pH 8.0 0.01 M, SDS 0.03 M), and stored at -20[degrees]C until analysis.
However, exposure of the cervix to seminal plasma during coitus has been shown to elicit substantial changes in the leukocyte populations within the cervix, initiating a reaction reminiscent of the inflammatory response with effects that penetrate through the stratified epithelial layer and deep into the stroma of the
ectocervix [35].
