One case was documented in a patient who used oral sodium phosphate tablets (
Visicol, made by Salix Pharmaceuticals Inc.).
In a randomized, endoscopist-blinded trial, 46 of 50 patients who received liquid sodium phosphate (Fleet Phospho-soda) had bowel cleansing with "excellent" (small volume, clear liquid) or "good" (large volume, clear to semiclear liquid) ratings, compared with 37 of 50 patients who received tablet sodium phosphate (Visicol).
But that trial used a tablet with a proprietary formula that is not commercially available, and 32 tablets were prescribed instead of the current study's 40-tablet regimen of Visicol. The study was funded by C.B.
