The new 659 will cover the same geographic area as the 205
area code. All existing customers will retain the 205
area code and will not need to change their telephone numbers.
All customers with existing 619 and 858 numbers will retain their current telephone numbers; however, customers must dial 1 plus the three-digit
area code for all calls to and from telephone numbers with the 619 and 858
area codes.
The CPUC has started the process to add the 858
area code to the areas now served by the 619
area code, as the 619
area code is expected to use up its available prefixes by March 2019.
Numbers with the current
area codes are still available - but there are so few that new firms are being asked to pay extra for them.
"Currently, Ofcom cannot allocate phone numbers in which the first digit after the
area code is 0 or 1.

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) announces that residential and business customers served by the 415
area code need to prepare for the introduction of the new 628
area code overlay.
Effective Wednesday, January 29, the mandatory dialing of 0 and
area code before the number for local calls from a landline phone enters into force.
The new
area codes have added '1' after the first '0', causing the
area code for Makkah to change to 012, Madinah to 014, Eastern Province to 013, Qassim to 016 and the Southern region to 017, said the report in Arab News.
