Lightning failed to strike twice for Canada as Australia cruised to Commonwealth Games gold, the Boomers making good on pre-tournament favouritism with an 87-47 romp in the final. Canada stunned New Zealand with a last-second semi-final win on Saturday, but they were unable to back it up 24 hours later against the Boomers. The Tall Blacks bounced back from an embarrassing semifinal loss to Canada to salvage basketball bronze at the Commonwealth Games. New Zealand toppled a plucky Scotland 79-69 on Sunday to secure third place on the Gold Coast. It was some consolation for the Tall Blacks, who were lethargic in a 88-86 semifinal loss to Canada on Saturday.
