The Vibrators – Pure Mania

Just dusted off this classic LP...After all these years it is still flat, a little surface noise from the years of debauchery, and it sounds damn good on my little set-up...

I have a pressing with the orange Labels but without the big V on the b side. It has the same ring text, no "stereo" under the catalogue numbers and on the left side of the label is has "1-7 April Mus. Ltd / Momentbest Ltd. runout has three dots in a triangle EPC-S-82097-A-1 Unable to identify which pressing it is based on whats available here. Any help would be appreciated.

Throw away your punk rule book: This is one of the best 77 Brit Punk record out there! 15 songs, every one as good as the next, every one with some little something to make it unique.

The mix on THIS reissue is totally different to the original 1977 LP mix.
Remastered or remixed? Who knows.
But most definitely a lot more open and cleaner than the original more “punk” orange label LP mix.

OK so here’s the thing...

The ORIGINAL orange label Epic pressing (with the big “V”) is a TOTALLY different mix to the later issues.
Makes me think the JC (35038) US issue is the same as this.
The guitars are MUCH further up in the mix, and some - if not all - of the tracks are remixed significantly for the ’79/80 repress (blue/ yellow epic).
I bought a “replacement” copy of this LP around ’79/80 (had stupidly sold my OG copy to buy some punk clothes on a trip to London) and I could tell the versions were different but it’s only now that I’m realising just HOW different!
There’s less clarity on the bass and definition of the individual instruments on this original press, but the mix is punchier, NOISIER and definitely much much more PUNK-Y with the guitars mixed LOUD!

And for those who are wondering - the recent Music On Vinyl release also uses the later master.
I guess y’all KNOW what to do now.....

Interesting: Listed as engineer is Steve Cunningham the original bassist for Houston Texas psyche outfit THE RED CRAYOLA.

This matrix also issued without the promo sticker. I have a copy.

I have a 1977 Australia copy with the Blue Epic label (not the standard Orange label). Run out markings are the same. Made in Australia marked on the small print around the label.
