This post is hidden because you reported it for abuse. Show this postThis thread will be dedicated to detailed analysis of DADC/Sony DADC USA discs.
Older DADC discussion: https://www.discogs.com/forum/thread/410606
Some info I will include here has already been posted in my research of related Sony manufacturing plants:
https://www.discogs.com/forum/thread/906958 (Austria)
https://www.discogs.com/forum/thread/969377 (Japan)
Given the comprehensive nature of this research/manufacturer, I will analyze sequential plant numbers, SID codes and other matrix features in subsequent posts (these will be frequently updated).
Some basic info we already know from DADC profile, the first plant in Terre Haute, Indiana (originally known as Digital Audio Disc Corp.) manufactured its first CD September 21?, 1984:
Thomas A. Edison* - The Edison CD Sampler™ (commemorative opening disc)
Bruce Springsteen - Born In The USA (red label promo, first popular CD made in USA)

This I'm pretty sure is associated with Sony DADC's Mexico plant that closed in 2015, as this SID code is often found on releases that have a DISC MADE IN MEXICO sticker.
I also have a list about SID codes in the North American DADC plants but it looks like you've already covered most of the information I've gathered: https://www.discogs.com/lists/DADC-in-North-America-SID-code-and-location-tracking/541507 -

Original 3 DADC matrix prefix codes from 1984 were DIDP (Sony popular), DIDC (Sony classical) and DIDX (non-Sony). These were adopted from the Japanese CBS/Sony Inc. plant which started using them during 2nd half of 1983. Japanese made-for-USA DID_ discs ended when DADC started CD production (very late 1984).
See: https://www.discogs.com/forum/thread/969377#9832085
Japan-for-USA DIDC and DIDP codes started at number 20001, DIDX at number 1.
Highest known Japanese DIDC matrix # is 20065
Highest known Japanese DIDP matrix # is 20151 (in sequence)
Highest known Japanese DIDX matrix # is 181 (in sequence)
See: https://www.discogs.com/forum/thread/969377#9843434
So actual DADC matrix codes start around those numbers (some discs with lower numbers were only made by DADC, those were released later such as Quiet Riot - Condition Critical). DADC used identical matrix pattern and style (font) as the Japanese plant had used until the end of 1984 (only without - between prefix and number), naturally continuing the DID_ codes sequence uninterrupted.
In 1986, DADC abandoned the 20xxx series and continued the sequence with # 70001.
DIDC/DIDP 50xxx series was used during 1985 for reissues of Japanese discs (DIDP 5018x> are original editions).

One CD release beyond 2018 exists: DIDX 1091787 Final Fantasy VII Remake (Mini Soundtrack) (2020)
After DIDP/CPDP/CPDP/CPTP (and CPDX) codes ended in 2009, DIDX became the only CD matrix prefix in use (several DIDX numbers were skipped as a result of this merge). Most original CD issues from 2009 (and some from 2010) are mixed up with reissues. -

IFPI 5100 (Springfield?)
IFPI 1T** (Carrollton?)
How have you guessed which location these SID codes belong to?
A few connections:
IFPI 5100 was mostly used in conjunction with L336 and L337. These mastering codes appear on releases from late 1995-early 2003 (matches Springfield article info). There are also some CDROMs in db with these SIDs (also matches article).
This plant apparently also made their own masters. L336 and L337 have the Terre Haute crosshair symbols, only second number starts with 0 (2 digits instead of 1).
1T** is not linked to any particular mastering code (masters from all 3 plants). Last releases with this SID are from early 2001 (matches Carrollton info). Additionally, almost all releases are Sony (DIDP), very few DIDX codes (also matches article info). Also, most releases are unique, no variants as they appear on outsourced pressings I noted. Sony Music Special Products label used this SID extensively.
The only issue I have with 5100 is that mould SID ended in 2008 using Pitman and Terre Haute masters...
I'm quite sure L336 and L337 are Springfield masters, it's still possible that 5100 is Carrollton but it would make no sense to me that those discs would be mastered in Oregon and pressed in Georgia (the two plants were on opposite sides of U.S.). If Springfield did their own mastering, they should have been able to press their discs as well.

Great work! I have so much more useful and important info to share, it's just way too much for one day. I need to get sequential numbers sorted first. That alone is a huge project on its own. Just be patient ;-) -

This post is hidden because you reported it for abuse. Show this postSome more info regarding sequential codes:
All discs containing video content (including CD-ROMs/and early Enhanced CDs) have sequential matrix numbers ending in 0. These prefixes include:
CDAC (199?-1997?)
CDRM (199?-2003?)
PSRM (1995-2002)
CPDP (1995-1998)
CPDX (1995-1998)
DVDS/DVDSS/DVDL (1997-2017)
SUSS/SULD/SUHD/STLD (1999-2007)
SROM (2002?-2006)
AUSS/AUDL (2003-2008)
AUHD/DDHD (2004-2006)
BVSS/BASS/BVDL (2006-2018)
IDRM (2010-2011?)
PDSS (2003-2008) prefix matrix numbers all end in 5 (possibly the only one using that pattern).
Only 3 DADC matrix prefixes actually started at 000001:
CSIG (1988-1989)
DISP (1988-1994)
LDVS (1988-1997)
We have at least one 2022 Sony DADC USA release in db (new USTL prefix): The Band - The Last Waltz
DADC also used special DIDX codes for radio samplers released 1990-1996, all these start with 99xxxx (first number 990001). -

This post is hidden because you reported it for abuse. Show this post gemini80s edited over 3 years agoSpeaking of DIDX 99 codes, these appear to be the only DADC discs with actual release dates printed on them, so we can get some fairly accurate data as to when SID codes were implemented by the Terre Haute plant (only one who made those discs).
Various - HitDisc 075E Dec 23, 1994 = no SID codes
Various - HitDisc 076E Dec 23, 1994 = no SID codes
Various - HitDisc 077E Jan 6, 1995 = no SID codes
Various - HitDisc 078E Jan 13, 1995 = no SID codes
Various - HitDisc 081B Feb 3, 1995 = mastering SID visible on image
Various - HitDisc 089A Mar 31, 1995 = mastering SID visible on image
Various - HitDisc 098A Jun 2, 1995 = mastering + mould SID
Based on this info it seems that DADC mastering SID likely started beginning of 1995 (certainly no later than January). This also nicely mirrors the DADC Austrian plant history as I researched here:
https://www.discogs.com/forum/thread/906958?page=2#9532022
It appears mould SID was introduced a few months later in 1995 (as with DADC Austria plant and Pitman researched below).
Some more evidence from these classical CDs:
Symphonies No. 1 & No. 2 / Lieder Eines Fahrenden Gesellen (Jan 24, 1995) = no SID codes
Bruno Walter Conducts And Talks About Mahler Symphony No. 9 (Rehearsal And Performance) (Jan 24, 1995) = no SID codes
Encores (1915 / 1916 / 1952 / 1953 / 1954) (Feb 21?, 1995) = no SID codes (earliest release date I could find)
Music For Queen Mary (A Celebration Of The Life And Death Of Queen Mary) (Apr 4, 1995) = mastering SID visible on image
Symphony No. 2 In E Minor, Op. 27 (Apr 18, 1995) = mastering + mould SID -

This post is hidden because you reported it for abuse. Show this post gemini80s edited over 4 years agoCD matrices with mastering SID L421 look very strange compared to all other DADC matrices (completely different/smaller font, mastering SID outside of matrix ring=unique for DADC):
Common matrix by this plant (1995 promo pressed by Pitman):
https://www.discogs.com/release/2094907-Mariah-Carey-Fantasy/image/SW1hZ2U6ODk3ODY4OQ==
Matrix / Runout: E1 3ACSK07321 03
Mastering SID Code: IFPI L421
Mould SID Code: IFPI 7249
This 1995 release is different (mastering SID appears inside of matrix ring/below matrix, not above as usual for this manufacturer in first example, DADC code appears on disc face):
https://www.discogs.com/release/4890397-Various-My-Utmost-For-His-Highest/image/SW1hZ2U6NzE2ODI3OTY=
Matrix / Runout: E1 1A EK 67273 01
Mastering SID Code: IFPI L421
Mould SID Code: none
Pressing Plant ID: P108
This late 1996 release has mastering SID code placement within the mirror band but directly above matrix code (very odd):
https://www.discogs.com/release/13462765-The-Presidents-Of-The-United-States-Of-America-II/image/SW1hZ2U6NzAzMjQ3OTI=
Matrix / Runout (Variant 1): F1 1A CK67577 03
Mastering SID Code (Variant 1): IFPI L421
Mould SID Code (Variant 1): IFPI 7202
IFPI L421 was only used until 1996. Highest known catalog numbers:
EK67828 That Thing You Do! (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (retail release)
CSK08860 Kula Shaker - K (promo)
Nearly all of these masters were pressed by Pitman, some by SMC: Twelve Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus (none by Terre Haute in db).
Update:
I'm now 99.9% certain these were Pitman masters because the second digit of first matrix code always matched the last digit of mastering code (E1, F1 = L421 above). This perfectly fits with codes from below post:
F2, G2 = L422
E3, F3 = L423
E4, L4 = L424 -

This post is hidden because you reported it for abuse. Show this postDADC vs Sony DADC LCCN cutoff dates (August 2005):
For ___P codes, we have a nice dividing line: releases up to late August end at 1203xx. All following numbers up to 132xxx are reissues (generally 2006 or later), original issue sequence then continues at 1333xx:
DIDP-119698 Argent - Argent & Circus 2 LP's On 1 CD (Jun 21)
CPTP-119891 Art Blakey And The Jazz Messengers* - Drum Suite (Aug 16)
CTDP-119986 All Over The World - The Very Best Of Electric Light Orchestra (Aug 2)
DIDP-119938 Son Volt - Free Form Radio Advance -- 5 New Songs (promo for Jul 12 release=made in June)
DIDP-120086 Charly Garcia - 20 Éxitos Originales (Jul 19)
CTDP-120032 Rodney Crowell - The Outsider (Aug 16)
CTDP-120129 Ahmad Jamal - The Legendary OKEH & Epic Recordings (Aug 16)
DIDP-120198 Various - Reggaeton (Jul 26)
CTDP-120212 Carly Simon - Moonlight Serenade (Jul 19)
CPTP-120242 Bob Brookmeyer - Bob Brookmeyer And Friends (Aug 23)
CTDP-120339 Mike Phillips (8) - Uncommon Denominator (Jul 26)
CTDP-120342 Gunther Schuller, The Incredible Columbia All-Star Band - Footlifters: A Century Of American Marches (Aug 30)
CTDP-133360 Vendetta Red - Sisters Of The Red Death (Aug 30)
CTDP-133393 CeCe Winans - Purified (Sep 13)
CTDP-133368 CPDP-133405 Lincoln Brewster - All To You ... Live (Aug 30)
CTDP-133429 Bartók* - Eugene Ormandy, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Robert* And Gaby Casadesus - Concerto For Orchestra / Sonata For Two Pianos And Percussion (Aug 30)
DIDP-133473 Steve Smith (5), Vital Information, Dave Wilczewski*, Dean Brown, Tim Landers, Eef Albers - Orion (Sep 13)
CPTP-133518 Our Lady Peace - Healthy In Paranoid Times (Aug 30)
CTDP-133575 The Fray - How To Save A Life (Sep 13)
CPTP-133580 Patty Loveless - Dreamin' My Dreams (Sep 13)
CPTP-133581 Switchfoot - Nothing Is Sound (Sep 13)
DIDP-133712 Sam Cooke - Night Beat (Sep 20)
CTDP-133923 Sandi Patty - Yuletide Joy (Oct 11)
CTDP-133946 Streisand* - Guilty Pleasures (Sep 20)
CTDP-133949 Three 6 Mafia - Most Known Unknown (Sep 27)
CTDP-133950 The Go! Team - Thunder, Lightning, Strike (Oct 4)
It's possible this 120/133 gap was intentional to mark the transition to Sony DADC name as it happened right around beginning of August (glass masters are usually made about a month before release date).
DIDX/CPDX codes have no obvious dividing line (but 1142xx-1145xx are late 2005-2006 releases). August 2005 releases ended around 1151xx:
DIDX-114049-114055 Robert Anton Wilson - Explains Everything (Or Old Bob Exposes His Ignorance) (Jul 30)
CPDX-114097 Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor (Jul 28)
DIDX-114137 Hootie & The Blowfish - Looking For Lucky (Aug 9)

DIDX-114911 Mozart* - Donald Runnicles, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra & Chamber Chorus* - Requiem (Aug 23)
DIDX-115066 Scar Symmetry - Symmetric In Design (Sep 6)
CPDX-115119 Bullet For My Valentine - Hand Of Blood (Aug 23)
DIDX-115137 115138 Gorefest - The Ultimate Collection Part 1 - Mindloss & Demos (Aug 23)
DIDX-115151 Tierney Sutton - I'm With The Band (Aug 23)
DIDX-115163 Mary Lou Williams - My Mama Pinned A Rose On Me (Aug 30)
DIDX-115164 McCoy Tyner - Passion Dance (Aug 30)
DIDX-115280 Joan Baez - One Day At A Time (Sep 13)
DIDX-115376 Tom Foolery And The Mistakes - Marble In The Oatmeal (1996-2005) (some tracks recorded Oct)
DIDX-115479 Tim O'Brien (3) - Cornbread Nation (Sep 13)
DIDX-115689 Watch Them Die - Bastard Son (Sep 6)
DIDX-115775 The Duskfall - Lifetime Supply Of Guilt (Sep 6)
DIDX-116166 Eric Dolphy - Prestige Profiles (Oct 25)
DIDX-116186 Mike McClure Band - Camelot Falling (Sep 13)
DIDX-116239 Primal Fear - Seven Seals (Oct 18)
DIDX-116240 Edguy - Superheroes (Oct 18)
Based on above, profile LCCN entry instructions should be something like this:
___P prefix (DIDP/CPDP/CPTP/CTDP):
numbers up to 120xxx = DADC glass master (unless Sep 2005+ release date=Sony DADC)
121xxx and higher numbers = Sony DADC glass master
___X prefix (DIDX/CPDX):
numbers up to 1142xx = DADC glass master (unless Sep 2005+ release date=Sony DADC)
115xxx and higher numbers = Sony DADC glass master
Not sure how ___X 114xxx numbers with unknown dates should be credited as some were made before August 2005. One option would be to set the DADC/Sony cutoff number around 114500, another option could be not to use glass master entries for those cases (note that ~114260-114500 codes were all made after August)... -

This appears to be the rarest and only USA DADC matrix plant pattern without sequential codes (only some 20 releases exist in db).
In addition to music CDs, this plant also produced CD-ROMs: Various - Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine - April 2001 - 43
All this info coupled with above articles strongly strongly indicate that mastering SIDs IFPI L336 and L337 belonged to the Springfield, Oregon plant. I'm almost certain about the mastering SIDs...
Mould SID IFPI 5100, however, continued to be used until the end of 2008 by Terre Haute and Pitman plants.
Last known IFPI 5100 Pitman masters:
CTDP 156068 Glasvegas - Glasvegas (Jan 6, 2009)
DIDX-146798 Ludacris - Theater Of The Mind (Nov 24, 2008)
CTDX-004147 Various - Barbie & The Diamond Castle (2008)
Last known IFPI 5100 Terre Haute masters:
CTDP-155932 Beyoncé - I Am... Sasha Fierce (Nov 18, 2008)
DIDX-140774 In Flames - A Sense Of Purpose (2008)
Could this mould SID have been transferred to remaining DADC plants after the closure of the Springfield plant (which no longer existed after April 2003)? -

I've been working on the DIDP series but found it difficult with CSR vs domestic releases with dates. The 2xxxx series was quite confusing. Made in USA vs manufactured in USA and represses with or without upside down triangle.
True DIDP 5xxxx series was just for 1985 then? Because that makes sense when they started their own DIDP 7xxxx in 1986.
Thank you for the hard work on this! -

DIDP 5xxxx series was just for 1985 then
Definitely for the first ~150 numbers. However, at least 3 releases with higher codes are some of the earliest original DADC editions:
DIDP 50184 Ramsey Lewis & Nancy Wilson - The Two Of Us CK 39326
DIDP 50187 Philip Bailey - Chinese Wall CK 39542
DIDP 50196 Bob Dylan - Real Live CK 39944
(no made in U.S.A. on any of these)
I think they should have used the 20xxx series for those as release dates of those titles match the early 1985 sequence used for that series at the time... -

Yeah I noticed they don't have triangle on CD face of at least 2. Strange they started off on high number and then went back to low.
I agree they should have the 2xxxx series
You think it's a possibility they are released on cd into first half/middle of 1985 and not 1984?
Since Ramsey Lewis & Nancy Wilson - The Two Of Us has a street date of Feb. 25 1985.
September 1984 being the start release date for DADC.
and/or
Possible botched at manufacturing stage with not using 2xxxx series instead of 5xxxx series. -

That's what I was saying above=release dates entered here are wrong, this is sadly the case for about half of mid-1985s DADC CDs, I don't bother fixing those anymore, too much work ;-)...but maybe once the profiles are updated with my research, who knows...
I'm almost certain that DADC started mass production Nov/Dec 1984 (can not even prove that any CD was actually released before 1985 except for the Springsteen disc and Edison promo sampler which were only pressed by DADC but mastered in Japan).
But I doubt anything went wrong production-wise because:
DIDP 20184=Blue Öyster Cult - Fire Of Unknown Origin
DIDP 20187=Elvis Costello And The Attractions* - Armed Forces
DIDP 20196=Paul Simon - Greatest Hits, Etc.
Maybe these numbers were just poorly assigned (they already belonged to above releases, so they used the still-available 50xxx series instead)? -

Yeah I agree. If anything released in 1984 in a 3 months window would be low considering CSR was still being made and released in US.
Example:
Huey Lewis And The News* - Sports has a date of 1984 (DIDX series)
1985 releases except the blue face WG is wrong.
https://www.discogs.com/search/?type=all&title=Sports&artist=Huey+Lewis+%26+The+News&format=Cd&year=1985
Schwann June 1985 page 50 shows this WITHOUT a star with VK 41412 catalog number. But Schwann Dec 1984 has no mention at all. Manufactured in 1984 but to prove your point released in 1985. -

First USA DIDC 20066 Ravel* : Bernstein*, New York Philharmonic, Orchestre National De France - Bolero / La Valse / Alborada Del Gracioso / Daphnis Et Chloe Suite No. 2 already has 1985 on artwork, as does 20067 and 20069 (20068 and 20070 still have 1984 copyrights).
DIDC 20023 Rampal* • Vivaldi* • I Solisti Veneti, Scimone* - 6 Concerti, Op. 10 (1985)
DIDC 20051 Mozart* - Murray Perahia, English Chamber Orchestra - Piano Concerti No. 6, K. 238 / No. 13, K. 415 (1984)
DIDC 20052 Murray Perahia - Mozart*, English Chamber Orchestra - Piano Concerti Nos. 1-4, K.37, 39, 40, 41 (1984/repress)
These are only pre-20065 original DADC pressings (no Made in USA) that I've found. Only 20051 and 20052 were possibly released end of 1984 (but I highly doubt it). -

First discs pressed by this original DADC plant September 21, 1984:
Thomas A. Edison* - The Edison CD Sampler™ DIDX-135
Bruce Springsteen - Born In The USA DIDP-20095
These were still mastered in Japan. Japanese discs can be identified by a hyphen/minus (-) between the 4-letter prefix and number. DADC normally used a space with its first generation matrix pattern, matrix print was also a bit thinner:
late 1984-late 1987 (dark/stamped matrix, same font and pattern adopted from Japanese CBS/Sony plant):
https://www.discogs.com/release/12449383-Various-Music-From-The-Original-Motion-Picture-Soundtrack-The-Big-Chill-Plus-Additional-Classics-Fro/image/SW1hZ2U6MzU4NjgzMTU= (DIDX 174 41A7)
❶1984-1987: DID_ [#] [2-digit number][letter+number]
[#] is the sequential DADC number (DIDX 3-4 digits, DIDC/DIDP 5 digits)
[2-digit number] is never lower than 11=first master by plant, following numbers were 21, 31, 41 etc. (last digit always 1, 3 digits were needed after 10th master)
[letter+number] is a stamper code, always A1 for first press by plant; some discs don't include this code
Last known original discs with this matrix style:
DIDC 70300 Brahms*, Serkin*, Szell*, Cleveland Orchestra* - Piano Concerto No. 2
DIDP 70758 Merle Haggard - Chill Factor
DIDX 2630 Echo & The Bunnymen - Echo & The Bunnymen
DIDM 2702 Echo & The Bunnymen - Songs To Learn & Sing (Capitol Jax pressing)
DIDX 3442 Pere Ubu - The Tenement Year (this last one is out of sequence)
This first generation DADC matrix was replaced by all-laser etched pattern w/ barcode starting with November 1987 releases (this change occurred in coordination with Japanese and DADC Austria plants as analyzed here: https://www.discogs.com/forum/thread/906958#9368506 and https://www.discogs.com/forum/thread/969377#9884243 ).
late 1987-2003 (bright matrix with barcode and crosshair symbols, same as the Japanese plant):
https://www.discogs.com/release/12467232-Freddie-Hubbard-Keep-Your-Soul-Together/image/SW1hZ2U6MzU5MjcyNzQ= (DIDP-70778 1 🝊🝊🝊 🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊 MANUFACTURED BY DADC)
❷1987-1988: DID_-[#] [number] [3+5 crosshairs] MANUFACTURED BY DADC
[number] is always 1 for first master (two digits were needed after 10th master)
This first modern matrix now normally included a hyphen between prefix and number. Original crosshairs pattern was 3 plus 5 connected symbols. "MANUFACTURED BY DADC" was dropped from matrix after a few months (last releases c.February 1988):
https://www.discogs.com/release/8087114-Canadian-Brass-Bach-Art-Of-The-Fugue/image/SW1hZ2U6NDM4ODgxNjY= (DIDC-70331 1 🝊🝊🝊 🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊)
❸1988: DID_-[#] [number] [3+5 crosshairs]
This is the rarest DADC matrix pattern, which was only in use for about a month (last releases c.March 1988) before sequential numbers expanded to 6 digits.
After that point, DADC codes included leading 0s. New matrix prefixes CSIG and DISP were also introduced in 1988 (matrix denotations will now be [prefix-#] instead of DID_-[#]):
https://www.discogs.com/release/2225628-Bruce-Springsteen-Live-Chimes-Of-Freedom/image/SW1hZ2U6ODc0NjAxMg== (CSIG-000125 3 🝊🝊🝊 🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊)
❹1988-1994: [prefix-6 digit #] [number] [3+5 crosshairs]
A slightly different, 2nd crosshairs pattern also started in 1988 (first symbol was separated):
https://www.discogs.com/release/3513173-Aerosmith-Guns-N-Roses-Rag-Doll-Sweet-Child-O-Mine/image/SW1hZ2U6Mzg4MzgzNjg= (DIDX-003589 1 🝊 🝊🝊 🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊)
❺1988-1994: [prefix-6 digit #] [number] [1+2+5 crosshairs]
The 3rd crosshairs pattern with 11 symbols appeared around late 1992 (3 characters were added at the end):
https://www.discogs.com/release/2169848-T42-Let-Me-Go/image/SW1hZ2U6NjA4NDYyNDc= (DISP-001626 1 🝊 🝊🝊 🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊)
❻1992?-2000?: [prefix-6 digit #] [number] [1+2+8 crosshairs]
This pattern was used until around the end of 2000.
All 3 different crosshair patterns were in use from c.late 1992 until at least the end of 1994, only 11 symbols remained after 1995 when SID codes were implemented.
During 1994-95, Terre Haute also used a matrix pattern with label catalog number instead of plant master number (only DIDX prefix/CDs mastered for other labels, likely NOT pressed by DADC):
https://www.discogs.com/release/9919454-Beastie-Boys-Licensed-To-Ill/image/SW1hZ2U6MjczNTA5MTM= (DIDX-030953 3145273512 🝊 🝊🝊 🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊)
❼1994-1995: DIDX-0xxxxx [label cat#] [1+2+8 crosshairs]
This one is generally the same as the Disc Makers pattern later used by other DADC plant: https://www.discogs.com/forum/thread/979096#9950863
An additional code appeared in matrices by 1996:
https://www.discogs.com/release/7895359-Patrick-Doyle-Hamlet-Original-Motion-Picture-Soundtrack/image/SW1hZ2U6MjEyMDA4MDU= (DIDP-091451 1 🝊 🝊🝊 🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊🝊 A03)
❽1996?-2003: [prefix-6 digit #] [number] [1+2+8 crosshairs] [letter+2-digit number]
[letter+2-digit number] always started with A01, letters can also be B or C (similar to stamper codes from mid-1980s), this 0 is often wrongly entered as letter O
This pattern overlapped with #6 for around 4 years (possibly due to different mastering SID codes)
By late 2003, crosshair symbols were abandoned as mirror band area also changed (borders became noticeably thicker):
2003-2018 (same matrix font/pattern but without crosshairs)

❾2003-2018: [prefix-#] [number] [letter+2-digit number]
[letter+2-digit number] is mirorred and smaller compared to previous pattern (letters can go up to F), this code can appear at the beginning, middle or end of matrix string, either stamped or laser-etched (depending on mastering SID which will be anlayzed later):

I don't think they are needed (especially if you include a matrix image), but as we have 3 different patterns, this data can only help... -

DADC (Terre Haute) plant stopped using a space in their matrix codes in 1988. I have not been able to confirm a single matrix with a space between prefix and number after that year (between pattern #3 & 4: https://www.discogs.com/forum/thread/979096#9962332 )

If anyone finds a similar unusual DADC code in matrix from 1989 or later, please let me know.
I'm quite certain that all BaOI matrix entries without - between prefix and number (e.g. DIDX 012345 6) made after 1989 are erroneous. Unless of course the plant itself made a typo as weird mistakes like that can happen sometimes... -

Some more info regarding sequential codes:
All discs containing video content (including CD-ROMs/and early Enhanced CDs) have sequential matrix numbers ending in 0. These prefixes include:
CDAC (199?-1997?)
CDRM (199?-2003?)
PSRM (1995-2002)
CPDP (1995-1998)
CPDX (1995-1998)
DVDS/DVDSS/DVDL (1997-2017)
SUSS/SULD/SUHD/STLD (1999-2007)
SROM (2002?-2006)
AUSS/AUDL (2003-2008)
AUHD/DDHD (2004-2006)
BVSS/BASS/BVDL (2006-2018)
IDRM (2010-2011?)
PDSS (2003-2008) prefix matrix numbers all end in 5 (possibly the only one using that pattern).
Only 3 DADC matrix prefixes actually started at 000001:
CSIG (1988-1989)
DISP (1988-1994)
LDVS (1988-1997)
We have at least one 2022 Sony DADC USA release in db (new USTL prefix): The Band - The Last Waltz
DADC also used special DIDX codes for radio samplers released 1990-1996, all these start with 99xxxx (first number 990001).
About the CSIG Code it actually ended in 1996.
Here's the release where the CSIG Code was last used

About the CSIG Code it actually ended in 1996.
It extended into 1997, but proper sequence of mini CD singles ended in 1989 at # CSIG 306~.
1991 are just some Coca Cola promos numbered 333 444 555 777 (obviously not sequential)
The series was resurrected in mid-1990s with at least 4 more releases from 1995-1997 (last known one is actually Steve Roden / In Be Tween Noise - Splint (The Soul Of Wood) # 803). -

This post is hidden because you reported it for abuse. Show this post gemini80s edited over 3 years agoMore useful info about SID codes:
Last known DID_ matrices verified with images before mastering SID was implemented:
DIDC-072299 Pau Casals* - Encores (1915 / 1916 / 1952 / 1953 / 1954) (1994 copyrights)
DIDP-085120 Carmen Rivero Y Su Conjunto Canta: Linda Vera - A Bailar La Cumbia (1995)
DIDX-028339 Marshall Styler - Bluefields (1995)
In other words, all DIDC-0723xx / DIDP-0852xx / DIDX-0284xx or higher matrix numbers will have a mastering SID code (except DIDX-0800xx, and most DIDX-0801xx / DIDX-08020x which are 1989 releases).
Speaking of above, DADC used at least one code twice for different releases:
DIDX-080177 1 Queen - Scandal (1989 single)
DIDX-080177 2 Various - Golden Oldies - Volume 10 (2002 compilation)
If mastering SID is present with number 1 in matrix, this means an edition without SID codes does not exist. -

Has anyone figured out if there's a pattern to the pre-1994 text embossed on the clear plastic hub/stacking-ring area? I think it's always one of these:
[nothing]
Made in USA - Digital Audio Disc Corp. [DADC logo]®
[DADC logo]® Made in USA★Digital Audio Disc Corp.
★ [DADC logo] ★
[DADC logo]
Also have you noticed the Terre Haute hub always had a kind of "grain" to it unlike the hubs of any other plants? (I think?) Not sure this would ever be useful, but now you have something else to look for. Good luck photographing it.
I've been reluctant to try to enter crosshairs because: 1. There's no exact match in Unicode. 🝊 is indeed close, but shows as a generic box on my browser because it's such an obscure character (the alchemical symbol for wax). I am guessing most people are in the same boat? 2. Perhaps more importantly, if you look closely, some of the crosshairs are boldface (thicker lines); I have no idea how to make that distinction in the BAOI data.
Back when I figured out how to straighten and scan the matrix barcodes on WEA discs, I was unable to apply the same technique to DADC discs... except pre-'96 Pitman discs, which have standard Code 39 bars (the ones which often have the "thick" look). On the later discs with the smaller, tightly packed bars, the pattern is non-standard or just too obscure to scan. I think someone on the Redump forum figured it out. But given that it never seems to be anything that isn't already visible in the human-readable part, I have not put any effort into scanning or entering the matrix barcodes on my own DADC discs. Has anyone else done it? And does anyone use placeholders like "[barcode]"?
The old CBS/Sony / CSR discs mastered in Japan had "11A#" codes in their matrix and sometimes also "+++++" (5 plus signs, not crosshairs). In my notes, I have a mention that the plus signs also appear on some US CDs, but I have no such discs in my meager collection. Has anyone seen these?
And then of course there's that darn triangle-circle symbol which no one has ever figured out the true meaning of. Bumping the 67-page discussion on the Steve Hoffman forum is almost a cruel prank at this point. -

I believe you got the pressing stamps in correct sequential order (some overlapping occurred possibly due to different machines=>later different mastering codes).
+++++ started after DADC (end of 1984):
https://www.discogs.com/forum/thread/969377#9831866
https://www.discogs.com/forum/thread/969377#9836924
If you see plus signs on USA discs, they must be Japanese masters
Will soon post my research on Terre Haute pressing features including Made in U.S.A. (ended early 1985)/Manufactured in U.S.A. (started 1985)/triangle logo (started middle of 1985)/DADC codes on disc faces (ended in 1997). Mastering codes also need to be covered.... -

Thank you for clarifying that. I was already aware that the CSIG Code was used on the 1991 Coca-Cola Promos. But I didn't know about Steve Roden / In Be Tween Noise - Splint (The Soul Of Wood) CSIG-000803. This release needs to be on the U.S. 3" Compact Discs (The "CSIG" releases) list because I got to admit that this release flew under the radar -

This post is hidden because you reported it for abuse. Show this post gemini80s edited over 3 years agoDADC/Terre Haute went through many changes during late 1987/early 1988 period with at least 5 different matrix patterns. Only a few months old "MANUFACTURED BY DADC" matrices already ended around January 1988 (possibly end of 1987 production-wise). The following pattern, last with original DADC codes, ended no later than February (last known DIDX-2919 Beethoven* - The Cleveland Orchestra, Christoph von Dohnányi - Symphonies No. 5 & No. 7). Then came 6-digit DADC codes around March:
3 very similar matrix patterns used during first half of 1988
1. DID_ 0xxxxx-X (hyphen between DADC# and master number [X]):
DIDC 070315-1 https://www.discogs.com/release/13960254-Isaac-Stern-Mozart-Violin-Concertos-Complete/image/SW1hZ2U6NDEzODk3MTg=
DIDP 070832-1 https://www.discogs.com/release/6360604-Bonnie-Tyler-Notes-From-America/image/SW1hZ2U6MzA4NzQ2NDc=
DIDX 002948-1 https://www.discogs.com/release/3014714-The-Specials-More-Specials/image/SW1hZ2U6ODM3OTg1MjU=
(original issue codes DIDX 0028xx - 0030xx)
This appears to be the original 6-digit code pattern. It was succeeded by one without hyphens:
2. DID_ 0xxxxx X (no hyphen at all):
DIDC 070380 1 https://www.discogs.com/release/5640886-Nielsen-Leonard-Bernstein-Royal-Danish-Orchestra-New-York-Philharmonic-Symphony-No-3-Sinfonia-Espans
DIDP 070889 1 https://www.discogs.com/release/12722459-Fifth-Angel-Fifth-Angel/image/SW1hZ2U6MzY4NjEyODc=
DIDX 003170 1 https://www.discogs.com/release/23385647-Taylor-Dayne-Tell-It-To-My-Heart/image/SW1hZ2U6Nzg2ODMzNTc=
(original issue codes DIDX 0030xx - 0032xx)
These two unusual matrix patterns were used only for a short time (around a month each), always with original 3+5 crosshair symbols. After pattern 2 was abandoned before the middle of 1988, only the standard DADC pattern remained:
3. DID_-0xxxxx X (hyphen only in DADC code):
DIDC-070372 1 https://www.discogs.com/release/7069920-English-Chamber-Orchestra-Raymond-Leppard-Pachelbel-Canon-Other-Baroque-Favorites/image/SW1hZ2U6Njk3NTk5OTc=
DIDP-070864 1 https://www.discogs.com/release/945013-Til-Tuesday-Everythings-Different-Now/image/SW1hZ2U6MzgyNDQ1Mw==
DIDX-003013 1 https://www.discogs.com/release/1865753-The-Band-The-Last-Waltz/image/SW1hZ2U6MjgzMDg0MDk=
This matrix started around the same time as pattern 2 (it probably did not overlap with 1).
Beethoven*, Juilliard String Quartet - The Complete String Quartets Volume 2, The Middle String Quartets = Die Mittleren Streichquartette Op. 59, Op. 74 & Op. 95. is an interesting example of above with all 3 discs having different matrix patterns -

DIDX codes on disc faces were originally without space, hyphenated (in parentheses) and/or with PCN prefix (only Tamla/Motown label), while matrices had no hyphens (exactly the opposite of discs made after 1988).
These types of codes were used until at least late 1985 (last known discs):
DIDX195 UB40 - Labour Of Love (reissue)
PCN-DIDX-263 The Temptations - 17 Greatest Hits (1985)
PCN-DIDX265 PCN-DIDX266 Stevie Wonder's Journey Through The Secret Life Of Plants (1985)
(DIDX-432) Amadeus (More Music From The Original Soundtrack Of The Film) (1985)
DIDX437 Flim & The BB's - Big Notes (1985)
DADC codes on CDs pressed by Terre Haute (IFPI 50**) generally ended early 1997 (exceptions below). Last known non-promo CDs made in sequence:
DIDP 091532 Bach Sinfonias & Orchestral Movements (1997)
DIDX 052234 Darq Age - 4 Kornaz (1997) (DIDX codes only appear on some discs after end of 1996)
Terre Haute still used DIDX codes on some CDs including promos (but with different prefix or number) until at least 2003:
DIDX# 36197 Oak Cliff Assassin* - Clean Edit For In Store Play!! (2001 promo)
DIDX 70656 Max Minelli Featuring: Mystikal - Thug Thang / My Hood (2003 promo)
DIDX# 093277 The Barkays* - Glad You're My Lady (2003 promo)
DIDX # 071614 Margaret Brouwer - Light (2003)
DIDX# 76625 Project Pat - The Appeal Mix Tape (2003)
(these appear to be some special pressings as all non-promo numbers are out of normal # sequence used by DADC plants at the time)
DADC codes were present on Playstation CD-ROMs made by Terre Haute until at least 2001 (end of production?):
PSRM-023340 Various - PlayStation Underground Jampack Fall 2001
During 1996, Terre Haute and Pitman plants each placed DADC codes on different parts of the CD face (see below post). Terre Haute also repressed discs originally made by Pitman, so those may include DADC codes on CD face up to 2001. The Carrollton plant never included DADC codes on CD faces, the Springfield plant possibly did but not after 1997. All this makes it very difficult to determine which DADC plant made the original U.S. CD pressing for Sony related labels during that period... -

This post is hidden because you reported it for abuse. Show this post gemini80s edited over 3 years agoAbove codes are very complicated, so I'll try to make more sense of them here:
Basically, a ___P and ___X code usually started around at the same time (P used for Sony, X for non-Sony releases), all numbers in xxxxx0 format (ending in 0) indicate video content on disc.
CPDP and CPDX (Enhanced releases) started in 1995 (CDPX possibly later), these codes in 00xxx0 format ended early 1998 (some 164 and 139 numbers were used respectively).
CPTP and CTDP codes appeared early 1997 using normal sequence starting with 000001 (used until early 1998 up to at least 000387). Those numbers exist with either CPTP or CTDP prefix (rarely both, such as Celine Dion* - Let's Talk About Love CPTP-000284/Celine Dion* - Let's Talk About Love CTDP-000284).
In early 1998, CPTP/CTDP codes changed to 001xx0 format (they continued using CPDP sequence for a very short time). After that, all 3 C__P codes adopted the DIDP number sequence starting from 095000 (lower C__P codes in this format are all reissues).
CTDX codes appear to have started after CPDX original sequence ended at 001390 early 1998 (which would explain lowest CTDX number 000353 in db). Around the same time, CPDX codes adopted the DIDX number sequence as Enhanced releases continued from 064xxx until CPDX ended in 2009...
CPTX codes however, only used the CTDX number sequence. Unlike CTDX releases, CPTX are all Enhanced CDs (only some 15 releases from 2003-2009, numbers 000619-004408 exist in db). -

The DADC Laserdiscs unfortunately are infamous for laser rot, here in the laserdisc community. 2075 Titles pressed by DADC have laser rot the most in any laserdisc pressing plant. It appears that DADC Laserdisc Pressings from 1990 to around 1992,they weren't as bad as it's chances of having laser rot was low. Then in the mid 90s, that's when laserdiscs from DADC would start going bad. In fact in 1996-1997 was the worst time for DADC Laserdisc Pressings of films and music videos alike. It seems that by the end of 1998, it was abysmal the laser rot issue that it seems DADC shutdown laserdisc manufacturing. It was certain either to expand DVD Replication and the Laser Rot issue was too big.

how long was Terre Haute (+/- other US plants) known as "DADC" before instead being known as Sony Disc Manufacturing or some other name
As of early 1990, it was definitely still "DADC" as per Laserdisc article below.
"Sony Disc Manufacturing" was already used early July 1994 per this Billboard article:
https://books.google.com/books?id=XggEAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA80&lpg=PA80&dq=sony+disc+manufacturing+billboard&source=bl&ots=ctMImff9PS&sig=ACfU3U3mUN2MfUkcqnqzIKFId8kciheneA&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiU59a4l_b7AhUg7rsIHaQ5AqYQ6AF6BAgnEAM#v=onepage&q=sony%20disc%20manufacturing%20billboard&f=false
Still used as of February 2003:
https://books.google.com/books?id=CA8EAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA46&lpg=PA46&dq=sony+disc+manufacturing+billboard&source=bl&ots=eYUnQrRjvY&sig=ACfU3U3tc2J9voiPRBeAbDLw-6Ic5tmvVA&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiU59a4l_b7AhUg7rsIHaQ5AqYQ6AF6BAgpEAM#v=onepage&q=sony%20disc%20manufacturing%20billboard&f=false
Not sure why Pitman only implemented DADC codes in matrix early 1997 (Sony already had 4 operational USA plants from late 1995). Interestingly, Springfield? was the only plant to use a SDMX matrix prefix (only DADC pattern I know without sequential #s): https://www.discogs.com/forum/thread/979096#9950863
It appears all plants were already unified as Sony DADC by April 2004 according to your any some other articles (official name probably changed August 2005)...
Sony DADC name already appears on this 2004 DVDr test sample made by Terre Haute: Jessica Simpson - Jessica Simpson
In addition, Sony Music México adopted DADC (U.S. plants) matrix sequential numbers in 2004, later also Sony DADC Brasil (at least for Blu-rays)... -

Thanks for the additional info. DADC DVD production began July 1997, but based on plant numbers I believe Laserdiscs production ended before that (these two formats did not overlap)...
AAlcantar, do you know exactly when Laserdiscs production started, are you sure it ended in 1998? Can you link to any 1998 release made by DADC?
I found https://www.discogs.com/release/2612211-Carpenters-Close-To-You-Remembering-The-Carpenters and over at the LDDB website, it says it was pressed by DADC with the runout as LDVS-003578-A-A1 and LDVS-003578-B-B4 and the release date in March 1998. They did keep pressing until fall of 1998 with the runout ending at LDAC-003674-A-A1
LDAC-003674-B-B3 (LDAC meaning it was a movie on Laserdisc with a Dolby Digital 5.1 Soundtrack) so anything between LDVS-003578 and LDAC-003674 were just movies pressed by DADC.
I know exactly when Laserdisc production, I believe laserdisc replication began in February of 1990 because a March 17,1990 Billboard article on page 84 mentioning about DADC beginning their first runs in February
It states as follows:
DADC has added laserdisc capacity to its
Terre Haute plants and began its first runs in February.
"This is a year of excitement for laserdiscs in terms of
looking at the number of players here and the variety of
hardware available," says Jim Frische, president of DADC.
"Now it's a matter of the software people coming out with
product. We've got substantial product commitments for
1990."

https://www.discogs.com/release/6207626-Morphine-Cure-For-Pain/image/SW1hZ2U6MjUwNjE2MTk=
Curiously, STDX prefix matrices are all U.S. releases (discs also made in USA), also mostly used in 1992 (1989 releases also exist but they could be reissues):
On Wings Of Song & Robert Gass - Om Nahama Shivaya / Hara Hara STDX-012373 2
STDP prefix was only used at the end of 1992...
Update:
Cocteau Twins - Heaven Or Las Vegas DIDP-076499
Fabricado Por DADC - USA Para Sony Music Entertainment (Brasil) Ind. e Com. Ltda
(this release just preceded STDP codes)
The Second Barbra Streisand Album DIDP-080052 (post STDP disc/USA master, made in Brazil)
Cool Runnings (Music From The Motion Picture) (late 1993 DADC Austria master, made in Brazil)
Above two releases almost certainly prove STDP are DADC masters as the Brazilian Sony plant apparently did not begin their own mastering until at least 1993. I believe all DADC matrices after 1988 (4 letter prefix-6 digit number) were only produced by USA Sony plants and up until the merger in 2004 when Mexican plant adopted them for example. -

Specific letters were apparently linked to manufacture dates. These were used chronologically from 1990 until the end of manufacture in early 2011:
From 1990-early 1995 (dark matrix), this letter was located at the end of matrix (became letter+number code in 1992):
2A CK46008 04 A The Chimes - The Chimes (1990)

This post is hidden because you reported it for abuse. Show this post gemini80s edited over 3 years agoAfter 1993, above letters always appear with a number attached to them, after 1996 this number also corresponds with the following Pitman SID mastering codes:
_1 = IFPI L421 (SID used mid 1995-late 1996, only letters E and F)
_2 = IFPI L422* (SID used end of 1994?-end of 2005)
_3 = IFPI L423* (SID used mid 1995-end of 2003)
_4 = IFPI L424 (SID used late 1996-2011, started with F after L421 ended)
*IFPI L422 was an exception early on (all apparently 1995 releases):
Gloria Estefan - Everlasting Love
Matrix / Runout: C3 1AESK77756 02
Mastering SID Code: IFPI L422
Michael Jackson - The Megamixes
Matrix / Runout: E3 1AESK07191 02
Mastering SID Code: IFPI L422
Stacy Dean Campbell - Eight Feet High
Matrix / Runout: C3 1ACSK77891 01
Mastering SID Code: IFPI L422
Most common mismatch was with D3:
Foetus - Null
Celine Dion* - The Colour Of My Love
Tuck & Patti - Learning How To Fly
IFPI L422 originally also matched with number 3.
More interesting findings about Pitman CDs:
The original "CMU P ___" plant hub stamp ended in 1997:
Last known release Celine Dion* - Let's Talk About Love
The smaller "P ___" stamp in innermost ring likely ended in 2001:
Last known release Lostprophets - The Fake Sound Of Progress
So all discs without a P stamp in hub and mould SID 72** were likely made after 2002. -

Thanks for this detailed Laserdiscs info! I see you've also updated the DADC profile with some other useful data, nice work. I'm just not quite sure why the April 1990 date in profile instead of February 1990?
There was this post link
https://groups.google.com/g/alt.video.laserdisc/c/L65aWqGh6Jg/m/hrybEjnxpSwJ about laserdisc replicators by Robert J Niland posted all the way back in 1994 in CompuServe. In it includes DADC where it describes as follows:
"Sony-USA (Digital Audio Disc Corp -DADC) ===================================
General: This plant came on line in April 1990, and hit full production
in July. "
That's where I initially got the April 1990 date. However, I was browsing and found a March 17,1990 Billboard post with a Dedicated ITA article where I found the mention of the DADC Terre Haute Plant where it began laserdisc production in February of that year. -

I discovered some discrepancies used with letter C which may explain why it was used alongside letter D after 1994:
Pitman apparently used 5 different matrix styles from late 1994-late 1995:
#1 Original dark matrix/thin font ended early 1995 (only suffix 1):
1A CK53003 01 C1 Billy Joel - River Of Dreams (1993)
2A CK53205 15 C1 Mariah Carey - Music Box (1993)
1A CK53931 01 C1 Cypress Hill - Black Sunday (1993) (see C2 pressing below)
1A CK64374 01 C1 Nas - Illmatic (1994)
1A CK66456 05 C1 Barbra Streisand - The Concert (Recorded Live At Madison Square Garden New York City) (1994) (disc 2 with D3 below)
Last known releases:
1A EK66900 06 D1 Pearl Jam - Vitalogy (Dec 6, 1994)
2A EK66905 02 D1 Various - Mixed Nuts (Music From The Motion Picture) (Dec 21, 1994 movie)
1A CD00327 02 C1 Extreme (2) - Waiting For The Punchline (Jan 19, 1995)
1ACSK06988 01 C1 Mad Season - River Of Deceit (1995)
1C CK67060 25 D1 Bruce Springsteen - Greatest Hits (Feb 27, 1995)
1A42K77679 01 C1 Diana King - Shy Guy (Mar 7, 1995)
1AESK77856 01 D1 Patty Loveless - You Don't Even Know Who I Am (Mar 15, 1995)
#2 Same dark matrix but with different font started in parallel around mid 1992 with B1 suffix:
1A EK48864 01 B1 Suicidal Tendencies - The Art Of Rebellion (Jun 30, 1992)
1A CK48826 02 B1 Regina Belle - Passion (1993)
1A OK53154 05 B2 Ned's Atomic Dustbin - Are You Normal? (Nov 10, 1992)
1A EK53164 01 B1 The The - Dusk (Jan 26, 1993)
from 1993-late 1994 only suffixes 2 and 3 were used:
1A CK48724 03 C2 The Kinks - Phobia (1993)
1A CK53706 15 C3 James Taylor (2) - (Live) (1993, compare with style 1 in disc one=C1)
2A CK53931 08 C2 Cypress Hill - Black Sunday (1993. see C1 pressing above)
1ACDP89248 01 C3 Iron Maiden - A Real Dead One (1993)
1A44K77225 01 C3 Mariah Carey - Hero (1993)
1A44K77761 01 D3 Steve Perry - Missing You (1994)
1A CK64222 08 C3 Mariah Carey - Merry Christmas (1994)
1A CK66457 03 D3 Barbra Streisand - The Concert (Recorded Live At Madison Square Garden New York City) (1994, disc 1 with C1 above)
1A EK66686 02 C3 Sade - The Best Of Sade (1994)
(thicker font, number 0 is not crossed; this matrix style ended in 1994)
#3 New bright matrix style appeared in 2nd half of 1994 only with C2 and (rarely) D2:
C2 1A CK66184 03 Various - It Could Happen To You (Music From The Motion Picture)
D2 2A CK66335 06 The Bible According To Black Sabbath - Old And New Testaments
C2 1A EK66430 04 Alan Silvestri - Forrest Gump (Original Motion Picture Score)
C2 1A CK66466 02 Various - The Best Of The Columbia Records Radio Hour, Volume 1
C2 1A CK66648 02 Loverboy - Classics - Their Greatest Hits (DADC code on disc face!)
C2 1A EK66803 01 Doug Stone - Greatest Hits Volume 1
C2 1A42K77621 03 Da Brat - Funkdafied
C2 1A49K77647 02 The Fifth Dimension - Medley: Aquarius / Let The Sunshine In
D2 1ACSK06645 01 Mariah Carey - Jesus Born On This Day
(same font as #2, barcode area still extends to both border circles)
SID era:
#4 Very similar/most recent matrix style followed in 1995 (originally with C and D/IFPI L422):
C2 1A CK67057 04 Mad Season - Above (Mar 13, 1995)
C2 1A EK67089 02 The Promise (10) - The Promise (Apr 11, 1995)
C2 1ABSK06743 01 The The - Hanky Panky
C3 1ABSK06968 01 The The - Hank Williams, Sr.* - The The Vs. Hank
D3 1A EK64439 01 Tuck & Patti - Learning How To Fly
(crossed 0, thinner barcode area)
#5 Different matrix style was used with IFPI L421 (mid 1995-late 1996):
E1 1A EK 67273 01 Various - My Utmost For His Highest
(smaller narrow font, same barcode as #3) variants of this one: https://www.discogs.com/forum/thread/979096#9947722
Based on above patterns, I assume Pitman expanded CD production with additional machines in 1992/1993 (Sony also apparently shifted its promo and CD singles manufacturing to the Pitman plant by 1994; those were generally made by Terre Haute until 1993), which is likely why 3 different matrix styles were in use at the same time during 2nd half of 1994. #4 succeeded #2 and #3, slightly overlapping with #1 (only one still without SID codes by 1995).
I still don't know why letter sequence was disrupted during 1994-95 with C. After C and D ended, normal sequence continued with E until the end with L. Possible explanation for overlapping letters:
suffix 1* (C D E F) = original machine (1993-1996)
suffix 2 (C D ... K) = machine 2 (1993-2005)
suffix 3 (C D ... J) = machine 3 (1993-2003)
suffix 4 (F ... L) = machine 4 (1996-2011)
*Number suffix started with B1 likely early 1992, later adopted by machine 2 which also rarely used B2 in 1992.
It appears machine 2 was the first to introduce a bright matrix with barcode (#3) around middle of 1994 as that style with C2/D2 did not overlap with C3/D3 (dark matrix still used by machine 3 until end of 1994). I believe machines 2 and 3 implemented the original mastering SID code IFPI L422+most recent matrix style at the end of 1994 (this might explain why suffixes 2 and 3 were both used with that SID in 1995). By late 1995, machine 3 was updated with IFPI L423 and machine 1 with yet another new matrix style+IFPI L421. Original machine 1 was apparently replaced by a new machine 4 (IFPI L424) by late 1996.
1990-early 1995 (no SID codes):
A, B, H1, b, B1 (until early 1992), C1, D1 = thin matrix print
B1, _2, _3 = bold matrix print (after mid-1992)
First SID IFPI L422 was introduced with _2 and _3 (C and D both ended early 1995 with this SID)
IFPI L421 and IFPI L423 started around same time (late 1995)
IFPI L424 started when IFPI L421 ended (late 1996) -

Yes, the more accurate and detailed the submisssions are, the more reference points there are to research the manufacturing plants to properly compile facts and assign attributes in profiles.
gemini80s is doing a lot of work here and I look forward to when the peer review period ends and we can finally start to apply this info to all of the DADC releases in the database. -

Yes, this is definitely overdue. The DADC profile is a mess currently with all the confusion and the Japanese glass masters assigned to that profile. Perhaps it would be best to create a new forum thread specifically to discuss this proposal? -

This post is hidden because you reported it for abuse. Show this post gemini80s edited over 3 years agoEarly DADC disc label features (made for Sony labels 1984-1985):
Earliest DADC discs made for Sony labels have no upside down triangle in circle logo on right side which appeared around June 1985.
Last known discs without triangle:
DIDC 20135 Canadian Brass* - Live!
DIDP 20278 Hooters* - Nervous Night
DIDC 50156 Yo-Yo Ma - Japanese Melodies
DIDP 50196 Bob Dylan - Real Live
DADC reissues of Japanese DIDP and DIDC matrices used "MADE IN U.S.A." or "MANUFACTURED IN U.S.A." on bottom of disc face. Original issues made by DADC did not include this info on disc (see Survivor - Vital Signs).
First popular CD pressed in USA Bruce Springsteen - Born In The USA (Sep 21, 1984 red label promo)/Bruce Springsteen - Born In The U.S.A. (regular edition) has "Made in U.S.A." while the Japanese original Bruce Springsteen - Born In The U.S.A. has "Manufactured in Japan" on disc face. This indicates DADC originally used "Made" for earliest reissues/repressings. More evidence of this:
Loverboy - Get Lucky "Manufactured in Japan "
Loverboy - Get Lucky "Made in U.S.A."
"Made in U.S.A." was originally used from late 1984 until around first half of 1985.
Other examples of pre-triangle pressings:
Philip Glass - Glassworks
Herbie Hancock - Sound-System
"Manufactured in U.S.A." was used from first half of 1985 until 1986? (when reissues of Japan discs ended). Examples of pre-triangle pressings:
Gustav Mahler, Kathleen Battle, Wiener Philharmoniker, Lorin Maazel - Symphony No. 4
Jackie Wilson - The Jackie Wilson Story
Wynton Marsalis, National Philharmonic Orchestra, Raymond Leppard - Trumpet Concertos
Earth, Wind & Fire - Electric Universe
Above releases confirm that "Manufactured in U.S.A." started before the triangle logo. I don't believe that "Made" and "Manufactured" in U.S.A. variants ovelapped, so if disc has the upside down triangle and "Made in U.S.A.", it must be a repress (earlier DADC disc without triangle must also exist). Any DIDP/DIDC disc without the triangle could not have been made later than 1985. -

Terre Haute discs appeared with 4 different pressing stamps embossed in hub between 1984-1994:
1. Made in USA-Digital Audio Disc Corp. [logo]® (used 1984 through 1992?)
Already present Sep 21, 1984 on plant opening discs linked on top, rarely used after 1991.
Last known discs (released 1993):
Regina Belle - Passion DIDP 078936 (possibly star variant below)

Rarest DADC stamp (star is upside down). Last known discs:
Sophie B. Hawkins - Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover DIDP 077566
Neil Young - Lucky Thirteen DIPX 014763
3. ★ [D logo] ★ (used c.1990 through 1993?)
Last known discs (released 1994):
Various - Damsels In Distress (Woeful Soprano Arias) DIDC 071754
Various - Philadelphia (Music From The Motion Picture) DIDP 080864
The Spudmonsters - Stop The Madness DIDX 021409
4. [D logo] (used c.1991 until 1994)
Last known releases:
John Tavener - Akathist Of Thanksgiving DIDC 072114
Jerry Rivera - Cara De Niño DIDP 080547
Unleashed - Live In Vienna '93 DIDX 021390
It appears only the long stamp was used during 1980s, all 4 variants were in use during 1992. There are also several discs without hub stamps dated before 1994, it's unknown which if those are represses (e.g. last mini CDs made by Terre Haute in 1989 don't include a stamp).
Although hub stamp use steadily declined in 1993, the D logo (Sep 1994 release DIDC 072114 is currently last confirmed) was still in use almost until mastering SID code implementation (DIDC 072299 is last without SID). As I keep finding later and later releases with stamps, this post will be amended often (variant 3 was probably used a few months into 1994 as well)... -

Stevie Wonder - You Will Know (1987) Matrix / Runout: CDS-27 2
Michael Jackson - Bad Matrix / Runout: CD SINGLE 11A16
(apparently the first mini CD still without the CDS prefix)
As you can see these codes are also sequential and apparently continued as CSIG after number 27, so the CDS prefix can be added to DADC profile. -

It appears SIDs L322-325 were all used again for CDs at times during 2011-2012 period (could only verify L323 and one instance of L324 with images, it's possible L321 started before 2011).
It must also be noted that number 9 in L329 looks very similar to 3 (or obscured by clamping ring), so that SID is sometimes wrongly entered as L323. For same reasons, L327 is sometimes confused with L322 (and L377 which does not exist), also the crossed 0 in L330 can be misread as 8 (L338 does not exist). These errors can generally be avoided with the help of this list, as well as the fact that all variants with same matrix must also have same mastering code. -

This post is hidden because you reported it for abuse. Show this post gemini80s edited over 3 years agoSpeaking of mastering code errors, there are a few hundred wrong entries with IFPI L320, correct SID for vast majority of these is either L328 or L329. I'm sure DADC plant never used IFPI L320 as I have not seen a single image to confirm this SID.
According to https://wiki.musik-sammler.de/index.php?title=Herstellungsland_(CDs_/_DVDs)
IFPI L320 belongs to Digital Audio Technologies Australia (mastering SID L311-320).
(I know this wiki site is not the most reliable but you can see that plants are usually assigned 10 consecutive numbers starting from 1 to 0 (Terre Haute originally had L321-330).
I think DADC and Sony DADC profiles need a note about L32* mastering codes confusion as the last digit of post-2003 pressings is not easy to see properly (SID print is small and clamping ring usually runs right through the mastering code). -

It appears mould SID was introduced a few months later in 1995 (as with DADC Austria plant and Pitman researched below).
I have a copy Various - Music From The Motion Picture Pulp Fiction with mould SID but without mastering SID. What does it means according to conception – mould SID was introduced later?
IFPI508C mould SID just in case and DIDX-025366 1 matrix -

This is a good question. I think it fits with any SID code variant (mould+mastering/only mould/only mastering) by the same plant.
So IMO your data should NOT go to Various - Pulp Fiction (Music From The Motion Picture) made by this https://www.discogs.com/forum/thread/979096#9950863 DADC plant which started late 1995. -

And the same thing I've noticed with my case. The mould SID'ded one has additional A09 in the end of the matrix. My copy doesn't have anything else in the matrix absolutely like unSIDded release.
Just an observation.
However as you said it could be just the same matrix printed on later mould with SID.

Yep, probably best idea. But first ask OS of Music From The Motion Picture Pulp Fiction if mould SID was overlooked (sometimes original editions turn out to be represses). If no response, then just create a new release and refer to this discussion if there are any issues with it ;-). -

I will do of course. But looks like they are a shop and they listed it six years ago. So looks like it's impossible now to get correct info from them about this copy :) -

This post is hidden because you reported it for abuse. Show this post baldorr edited over 3 years agoWow, just saw this thread. Quite a lot of details here gemini80s!
Quick question, which may have been answered here, but I'm just skimming: If you have a matrix string that's otherwise identical, but the C2/D2 is the only difference, should those be unique entries or can they be variants?
I see a release with all D2's for the variants, but mine has C2, for example:
D2 1A EK66900 12
C2 1A EK66900 15
Surely those seem like they should be just variants, but not sure. The SID code is also the same on all version (IFPI L422).
Edit: the example I'm looking at you actually commented on coincidentally, I figured I'd link it here: https://www.discogs.com/release/9580126-Vitalogy/history#latest -

Yes these D2 and C2 matrices were interchangeable during 1994-95, I still haven't figured why Pitman used both letters at the same time. All I know is that the C2 variant was made later (master #15, D2 is #12). -

Thanks, your edition is a repress of Pearl Jam - Vitalogy (I suspect the D2 variants are wrong there as that code was only used with bright matrix). -

Your findings on the Springfield plant is convincing - as circumstantial as it may seem.
Although I don't think you need any more evidence that these are actually different glass masters (e.g. crosshairs), but this release is an interesting addition: Bob Dylan - "Love And Theft". The variants with IFPI L323 have an error: 105999 instead of 105989 (or the other way around, they used the correct one). (Variant 2 was like that, but got recently removed, I believe a bit too early - see my question above.) -

Thanks for the compliments above. CTDP-105989 is surely a typo as proven by images. Regardless if they originated from a Terre Haute, Pitman, or Springfield? master, DADC sequential numbers never changed with subsequent pressings, only variants with different prefixes exist (I have not been able to find a single number mistake made by the plant(s) in that regard).
Interesting release indeed, impossible to say who made the first DADC master, Pitman (L424) or Terre Haute (L323) in this case (variants 1+5 and 3).
We also have a L336 (Springfield?) master Bob Dylan - "Love And Theft" (this one likely 2002-03), but the removed variant 2 from above may not belong to that release (club edition). -
