The Fly's nemesis, The Spider (formerly Spider Sprey) breaks jail again, this time by building a robot to take his place in prison. He sets traps for The Fly, tries to collapse a building on him, trap him with chlordane gas (an insecticide), tries to blow him up in a cave, then attacks with a robot spider. The Fly counters each trap with his buzz gun, his own robot, and super-insect powers.

Synopsis:
The Black Hood's uncle disappeared in India. He asks The Fly to help. Arriving, they're threatened by (black Zulu-like) natives, but the Fly's firefly glow makes him look like a visiting god. They point to a lost valley. Leopards threaten the uncle, then a giant gorilla, a brontosaurus, a pterodactyl, and a herd of T-Rexes. The gorillas are intelligent and protect the heroes. The Fly summons insects to swarm the dinosaurs. The heroes leave, and the gorillas seal the valley forever. "Next issue: 'The Invasion of the Rocket Men'."
The Fly is invited to join the Explorers' Club. He travels to their secret headquarters in the Egyptian desert. But they pull guns: a trick! They demand the secret location of the Statue of Gold. The Fly never heard of it. They lock him in "chlordane handcuffs". Suddenly Cat Girl and her leopards rescue the Fly. She also demands the statue's secret. The Fly summons insects to drive off the leopards, and is rescued by the explorers! The initiation is a trick: there is no statue. But underground, Cat Girl stands by a gold sphinx, whose secret is still safe.
