Funland was created by A. W. Nugent (Art Nugent) with the first syndication attempt in 1933, then appearing as a comic book only feature starting in 1935 continuing into 1955.
It would be picked up by the Bell-McClure Syndicate, from 1950 to 1972, then United Feature Syndicate, from 1972 to 1991. The activity panel would be restarted in 2009 by United Feature, which became Universal Uclick in 2011. Universal Uclick eventually became Andrews McMeel Syndication, its parent company by 2018.
Art Jr. took over for his father on Funland, from 1974 to 1991. N. A. Nugent has done the activity feature since 2009.
