American Healthaids of Newark, New Jersey offered Kelpidine Chewing Gum with the promise of easy, non-starvation weight loss by chewing "Dr. Phillips's" gum and following his Plan. It was also sold in packaged form, presumably as a powder. Kelpidine was found to be dried seaweed from the Pacific Ocean. By about 1954, it was sold as Kelpidine Candy.
