Jim Starlin (b. 1949)

Biography:

Jim Starlin is an American comics artist and writer.

Beginning his career in the early 1970s, he is best known for space opera stories, for revamping the Marvel characters Captain Marvel (English) and Warlock (English), and for creating or co-creating the Marvel characters Thanos, Drax [Earth-691; Arthur Douglas] - 31st century Guardians of the Galaxy - Earth-691, Gamora [typically from Earth-7528], and Shang-Chi [Master of Kung Fu]. Starlin wrote the miniseries The Infinity Gauntlet (Marvel, 1991 series) and its many sequels including The Infinity War (Marvel, 1992 series) and Infinity Crusade (Marvel, 1993 series), all detailing Thanos's pursuit of the Infinity Gems and his conflict with the heroes of the Marvel Universe.

For DC, he drew many iconic characters, including Darkseid [DC, Fourth World], and wrote the seminal storyline A Death in the Family which featured the death of Jason Todd [DC, Robin / Red Hood / Wingman] , the second Robin [Jason Todd], during his run on Batman (DC, 1940 series). For the Marvel : Epic imprint, he created his own feature, Dreadstar (English).
