Description:

Princess Diana, also originally known as Diana of Paradise Island and by the late 1980s, known as Diana of Themyscira, is the birth name of the Amazon princess who would become Wonder Woman.

Notes:

Wonder Woman was created by William Marston, who worked under the pen name "Charles Moulton". The development of the character was further influenced by Elizabeth Marston and Olive Byrne and by the art of Harry Peter.

  • First appearance and origin in All-Star Comics (DC, 1940 series) #8 (December 1941-January 1942).
  • Wonder Woman assumed the secret identity of nurse Diana Prince in Sensation Comics (DC, 1942 series) #1 (January 1942).
  • An expanded origin appeared in Wonder Woman (DC, 1942 series) #1 (Summer 1942).
  • Wonder Woman was given a new Silver Age origin by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru in issue #98 (May 1958).
  • Although Diana had appeared in the Golden Age as Wonder Girl in issue #30 (July-August 1948), the teen-aged Diana appeared regularly as Wonder Girl beginning in issue #105 (April 1959).
  • Diana first appeared as Wonder Tot in issue #113 (April 1960).
  • Impossible Tales, in which Wonder Woman, Woman Girl and Wonder Tot co-existed, began in issue #124 (August 1961) and ended in issue #155 (July 1965).
  • Wonder Woman of Earth-Two first appeared in The Flash (DC, 1959 series) #129 (June 1962).
  • A new Wonder Girl, later revealed to be Donna Troy, was introduced in The Brave and the Bold (DC, 1955 series) #60 (June-July 1965).
  • The "new look" Wonder Woman began in Wonder Woman (DC, 1942 series) #178 (September-October 1968).
  • Diana gave up her powers and studied under I-Ching in issue #179 (November-December 1968).
  • She regained her powers and first met Nubia in issue #204 (January-February 1973).
  • A Bronze Age origin was given for Wonder Woman in issue #206 (June-July 1973), which added Nubia as Diana's sister to the mythos.
  • Wonder Woman of Earth-One died in Crisis on Infinite Earths (DC, 1985 series) #12 (March 1986). Her history was completely wiped out by the Crisis.
  • Wonder Woman of Earth-Two ascended to Mount Olympus with her husband, Steve Trevor, in Crisis on Infinite Earths (DC, 1985 series) #12 (March 1986).
  • The Post-Crisis Wonder Woman was introduced in Wonder Woman (DC, 1987 series) #1 (February 1987) by Greg Potter and George PĂ©rez. She did not attempt to conceal her identity, instead she was known simply as Diana of Themyscira.
  • Wonder Woman killed Maxwell Lord in issue #219 (September 2005).
  • She first appeared as Agent Diana Prince of the Department of Metahuman Affairs in Wonder Woman (DC, 2006 series) #1 (August 2006).

Earth -12
First appearance and death of Diana of Themyscira [Earth -12] is in Batman: The Merciless (2017) #1. Diana of Themyscira is the real name of Wonder Woman on Earth -12 in DC's Dark Multiverse. Diana fought with the Batman of her world in war against Ares for two years. This war led to the death of her romantic partner, Steve Trevor. Later, Diana becomes involved romantically with Batman and warns him of the corrupting power of Ares helmet. Diana is stunned during an attack and Batman thinks her dead, but when he sees her come to and reach for Ares helmet, he kills her to keep the helm's power for himself.
