Emerging from the Eternal City, BEDSORE blends progressive rock heritage with modern extreme metal experimentation, crafting a unique blend of Progressive Death Magick!

Their latest release, Dreaming the Strife for Love (2024), marks a bold step in their sonic evolution, drawing inspiration from the mysterious Renaissance book Hypnerotomachia Poliphili. The concept explores Love as a battlefield, where desire and devotion are tested through trials and spiritual awakenings. The band weaves Poliphilo's dreamscape with their own, merging visions of pagan temples, mystical gardens, and arcane symbols with a musical landscape as dynamic and complex as his journey. The album immerses listeners in a surreal narrative where reality bends, and the pursuit of Love becomes a clash between the human soul and the cosmic forces that surround it.

Released via 20 Buck Spin, Bedsore’s second full-length evokes the sensation of uncovering a lost gem of obscure 1970s progressive rock, rediscovered in modern times.

As a sonic odyssey, Dreaming the Strife for Love echoes the complex narrative and thematic richness of the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili. "Bedsore’s 2020 debut album ‘Hypnagogic Hallucinations’ announced a Death Metal band that would not be content as merely another name in the meatgrinder of OSDM. A zealous determination to take their sound and influences into new territory was immediately recognizable in the colorful psychedelia, oddly-formed riffs and keyboard flourishes the band integrated with their mysterious darkness.

With the second album ‘Dreaming The Strife For Love’, the Roman band have jumped headfirst into the progressive warmth and obscure atmospheres of the 1970s. Where once you might call Bedsore a Death Metal band with progressive tendencies, it now feels more appropriate to characterize them as Progressive band with Death Metal tendencies. An aspirational and operatic aura envelops ‘Dreaming The Strife For Love’, from the longer compositions and spacious production to the extravagant and diverse instrumentation that includes 12 string guitar, copious use of synthesizers, mellotron and organs, fretless bass, percussion and horns; the dynamic range of the album embraces the most crucial elements of prog rock’s lofty imagination.

Though the Progressive side of the band has been given much more room to stretch out, the Death Metal foundations remain in the DNA. Vocally throughout the album the agonized screams of Jacopo Gianmaria Pepe endure, and the manic dark death and blackened metal riffs now segue and merge into the whole more adeptly than ever before. This results in an album that, rather than feeling like two separate albums in one, embraces a coherence for both forms, to create something distinctive, unconventional and wholly their own.
