    A protection plan worth buying

    After 2+ years of trouble-free operation, the hard disc on my Dell computer began to behave erratically (sending error messages and freezing). I tried to get help from Dell but got only sales pitches and recorded messages. However, I had purchaseda protection plan from Asurion (3-year protection with technical support and $200-249 coverage), so I contacted them. It was easy to get help from Asurion, and after trying some on-line troubleshooting without success, they gave me a $214 Amazon gift certificate and provided me with a prepaid shipping authorization to send them the computer. If anyone purchases a refurbished computer from Amazon, I highly recommend that they purchase the protection plan offered by Asurion.

    I just did a review on my 2 year Asurion Protection Plan. The entire experience was insanely fast and easy... even after I put off filing the claim for almost a month because I didn't want to deal with the headache.

    There was no headache. It was EASY. And did I mention it was FAST?

    In less than 48 hours, I started the claim, packed up the broken and took it to UPS and dropped it off with the prepaid shipping label, received notice that the claim was finished, and had my Amazon gift certificate in the email which allowed me to order my replacement.

    Highly recommend spending the little bit of extra money to get this coverage, especially if it will be hard (finacially) for you to replace an item that breaks.

    5 Stars across the board.

    Not good coverage at all

    I had a hard drive failure over the weekend. I tried to file a claim but the site said it was covered by a manufacturers warranty which it was not because it was Amazon refurbished. I then tried calling twice but each time it said I had to call back on Monday. It was a critical computer so I went to their authorized repair center snd had it repaired. I emailed the twice beginning Monday for reimbursement. When Friday came I went into the chat and they said they would not cover the reimbursement.

    I will never buy this insurance again and not Amazon refurbished because this happened after only 4 months (it was a refurbished), reaching Asurion was impossible and getting a claim approved is impossible.

    Submit a Separate Return for the Cost of the Plan When Returning Defective Item

    Remember to do a separate return for the ASURION protection plan that you purchased when you return the item that the plan covers. Amazon charges the Protection Plan as a separate line item and I'm guessing that some will miss this when they return the covered item. In my case, had I not checked the invoice for the defective desktop that I returned I would have assumed incorrectly that Amazon would process a refund for the Protection Plan. I am certain that Amazon and Asurion knows this. Nice money grab!
