Book overview
In the summer of 1992 Stanley travelled to the remote Pyrenean village of Montsegur and scaled the mountain to the enigmatic ruins of the castle perched high on its summit.
There he was trapped by a freak electro-magnetic storm. The ordeal set in motion a chain of spiralling events that led Stanley on a twenty year quest to learn the truth about the castle and its secrets.
Fully illustrated with many beautiful and rare photographs this book tells the bizarre story of Otto Rahn, who believed the castle was key to a priceless treasure and was employed by the Nazi SS to find it, or die.
We learn about the mysterious cult of the Cathars, who were massacred there in the 13th Century, and their warrior priestess, Esclarmonde, the ‘Light of the World’, immortal guardian of the Holy Grail.
Untangling a web of clues and coincidences, wonders and terrors, Stanley is caught up in a saga that will shake your beliefs and challenge your concept of reality.

Can I say something?

There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,

The world is currently a hot bed of turmoil and events. Too much background static and cynicism. But you know what? We tend to overlook things that go beyond normal understanding. Scarlett Amaris and Richard Stanley, a wonderful couple who are historians and film makers who have documented the happenings of a certain part of the Pyrenees that is loaded with beautiful vistas, history and, mystery! Mr. Stanley has used his powerful abilities as a film maker and documentarian as a jumping off point for this current work.

For Grail seekers everywhere
Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2014Format: KindleGrail seekers need all the help they can get. This book is a helpful addition to the thousands and thousands of words written about an object, person or elemental energy that remains hidden and defies explanation. Richard Stanley focuses particularly on the Cathars, Montsegur and events in and around this highly charged and mysterious place. He also provides insight into the activities of Otto Rahn, a grail seeker who became entangled in the Nazi grail search, a true poisoned chalice experience that seems to have led to his death. Another mystery.
I most enjoyed reading about the author's direct experiences, his own contact with intangible forces. Here lie genuine shadows of the Grail, especially the remarkable meeting described at the end of the book.

Fascinating Tales of Esoteric Lore
Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2012Format: KindleAn interesting initiatory journey into the realms of the supernatural, Shadow of the Grail is filled to the brim with personal observations, historical data, and lots and lots of weirdness. The more I read, the deeper down the rabbit hole I felt as my desire to travel to the South of France and follow in the author's footsteps grew. If you are a lover of the esoteric and chasing down mysteries oft ignored by mainstream academia, then Shadow of the Grail is a must read. Also, where can I get my hands on 'bleeding stones'?!?

Where the long shadows fall
Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2012Format: KindleThe perfect introduction to one of the strangest and most fascinating subjects there is.That this is such a personal account makes it all the better. The history presented here, extraordinary as it may be, is well researched and easily accessible.
Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary proof, so I had to go and see for myself and meet some of the people involved. It was the start of something momentous. You owe it to yourself to read this and discover that the world really is far stranger than you'd dared to imagine.
