    Wonderful book with memories and tributes from 19 people including well known personalities such as Ruby Wax and great actors including Alan Bates and Sir Ian McKellen. I have to confess not having heard of Ian Charleson before a 'Desert Island Discs' programme where his singing of 'The Songs of Ariel' from the 1978 RSC production of The Tempest was absolutely stunning. The Music by Guy Woolfenden is beautiful and Charleson's voice is just sublime. At a time when people were keeping quiet about AIDS Ian Charleson wanted it announced openly that he had died of complications resulting from AIDS. He was a very brave man, a wonderful actor and a great Tenor too.

    I was lucky enough to see Ian Charleson on stage several times. I cried when I learned of his death, and I cried at times reading this book. He was an extraordinary talent and the book seems to do him justice.

Qui ne se souvient de sa composition dans le film "les chariots de feu"? En outre, ce bel ouvrage s'articule autour de textes écrits par des comédiens l'ayant côtoyé ou travaillé avec lui (Ian Mc Kellen n'étant pas des moindres" et une succession de superbes photos souvent inédites de notre côté du Channel. Pour finir, la langue est accessible à qui a un peu étudié l'Anglais, donc ne boudez pas votre plaisir

    Very enjoyable, readable book of accolades about Ian Charleson by his close friends. I remember Mr. Charleston's performance in Chariot's of Fire, and wanted to read about his life before he passed away from Aids. This book was an easy and relaxing read, and it was quite entertaining as well. Mr. Charleston reportedly was a kind, while humorous person, as well as brilliant actor. His father was a printer, Ian was born of humble origins.
