Spain joined the African Development Fund (ADF) in 1973 and the African Development Bank in 1984.

Spain financed the Lake Turkana Transmission Line project (€110 million). This was the first African Development Fund project to benefit from a Partial Risk Guarantee.

Spain’s contribution to Bank’s Trust Funds and Special Funds are:

-Urban Municipal Development Fund (Euros 5 million)
-African Water Facility (AWF) (Euros 12 million)
-Microfinance Capacity Building Trust Fund (Euros 5 million)
-NEPAD-Infrastructure Project preparation facility (Euros 5.8 million)
-Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (Euros 4 million).
