Originally released on 78rpm with the same catalogue number in June 1954. It charted in June and was still on the chart when the 45 was released four months later. It was on the NME chart for a total of 25 weeks (in combined 45/78 sales).
Not deleted from the Decca catalogue until the early 1970s.
Aintimadog 11th Jan 2026: Silver Thick TRI centre added with colour and label variations to existing Thick TRI picture. jimmytheferret 19th Sep 2023: Added narrow pointed tri-centre version with minor label variations. deaconline 29th Nov 2018: Composer Tulio Trapani is a pseudonym for Mantovani rocket78 SUBS 25th Nov 2014: With acknowledgement to Graham7 - complete Later Pressing labels now uploaded. fatpizzaman 20th Nov 2012: Graham7 21st May 2012: Thanks for awl your help with this hole issue.
I realise i picked a bad example with BF 1662 but it was the last record i'd found in my boxes that differed. At least it put Scott Walker back in the charts (No 16, here at least).
I've got shedloads of records to add still, and am trying to add anything that's missing here, so with all these brilliant disc=tractions It may take some time.
Hopefully I've now corrected the links to the scans of the demos I did here.
PS I've still got a John Foxx record I can't catalogue on here to my satisfation.
Felonious 21st May 2012: If you look at other Phillips singles from 1968 you will note that some were issued with a large cut out hole. BF 1655
They were sold in the UK usually with a black plastic spider inserted.
Other companies like Atlantic issued similar 45s. 2091 065
Graham7 20th May 2012: Sorry, didn't mean to moan. I've now added the demo scans to the regular releases of F 10864 and F 10890.
EDIT: changed these links to be correct after I sent one of them scans to F 11289 in error
Graham7 20th May 2012: Adding label scans now. It looks like it used to have a triangle centre.
The demo discs I've got to add don't have the F.12345 cat no, just the DRF / DRX numbers. Do they belong with the regular issues or somewhere else. They're both single sided with blank backs. vinyl_junkie 20th May 2012: Graham7 - Dr Doom's image was added first, is a better colour and is as correct as the 3-prong version... Philips singles in '68 could just as likely turn up as a large hole (with 3-prong spider) as push-out... this one with no centre would be incomplete. The Toad SUBS 20th May 2012: It may perhaps be that BF 1662 has the large-hole version of the label as the main image because the Moderators just haven't got around to altering it yet - that is, assuming that they've been told about it. I struggle to keep on top of my own website, and it's only got a couple of thousand entries. How the Mods here get on, with hundreds of thousands of pages to look after, I really don't know - they have my wholehearted admiration, as well as my appreciation. Graham7 20th May 2012: Look what happened when I tried adding these type of images before see VS 318. see all my comments there and where linked.
Also wondering why BF 1662 uses the large hole version as the main image. Is it cos it's Dr Doom's?
Anyways I'll do the scans to this and also some solid demo labels for 2 other Whitfield sides soon. doormanperdomo 20th May 2012: Yes please, Graham - go ahead. All contributions gratefully accepted. We can always hide your images if one with a centre comes along. Graham7 20th May 2012: It was on charts for a total of 25 weeks (in combined 45/78 sales).
I have a copy of this with a different Decca logo.
Should I scan it?- the centre's missing. Maybe it's a later pressing. Still it might just be the oldest record I've found in my boxes so far. doberman 11th Jun 2011: It was No.1 on the UK Chart from July 3 1954 to Sept. 4 1954 -a total of ten weeks. Add a Comment or Review about this item.
