relief map as default?

edit

I've seen several of these with normal political maps, but the nature of the ancient sites is largely unrelated to modern-day political subdivisions. Shouldn't we make the relief maps the default? --Joy (talk) 09:16, 14 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Pushpin label default value

edit

Hi, please apply this edit

 |label       = {{{map dot label|{{{map_dot_label|{{#ifeq: {{lc: {{{pushpin_label_position|}}} }} | none | | {{if empty|{{{label|}}}|{{{name|}}}|{{PAGENAMEBASE}} }} }}}}}}}}

sandboxed here, for default label paremter. For example see pushpin map label of Giza pyramid complex. Thanks, Hooman Mallahzadeh (talk) 09:59, 13 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Zackmann08 Dear, sorry for pinging, I would appreciate you if you apply the above code. Thanks, Hooman Mallahzadeh (talk) 05:54, 11 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Precolumbian

edit

So I was getting ready to clean out Category:Pages using infobox ancient site with unknown parameters (0) and there are 238 pages still using |precolumbian=. There is a comment in the code saying precolumbian = yes - non-functional tracking parameter, do not remove/change. However that value, precolumbian is NOT used for any tracking category nor is it listed as a valid parameter in the Check for unknown parameters. Is it serving some purpose I'm not seeing? Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 05:34, 15 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

I think it is a legacy of the merging of {{Infobox Pre-Columbian site}} into {{Infobox ancient site}} on 2016-03-27. See this TFD. I assume that all uses of the template were converted and the parameter added as a record of the change. See this diff. I think it is safe to simply remove the parameter. I have done a few, but many of the infoboxes need other fixes, so it is not an easy AWB task — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 11:25, 15 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
@GhostInTheMachine: thanks for the info. Not having looked at transclusions yet, what other fixes have you found that are required? Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 17:51, 15 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Technically, none are required, but many of the articles seem to be quite old and created either by the same editor, by an old data import or from a common template. The infobox often includes a flag (see MOS:INFOBOXFLAGS) and the US ones often have USA (see MOS:USA). Some seem to use a child {{infobox nrhp}} for the designation, when there are specific infobox parameters for that (see this edit). I have also seen some odd text "thrown in" under {{{architectural_details}}}GhostInTheMachine talk to me 18:16, 15 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
  Facepalm so in other words, there are issues... Well when I'm done with my current project, I'm happy to help tackle those that you haven't gotten to. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 18:22, 15 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
