You can choose to designate a particular sum or percentage of your estate to WFMU, and if your financial situation changes, you can always modify your bequest. As an added bonus, bequests are exempt from estate taxes in most states.
Here’s some sample language you can use (be sure to include WFMU’s legal IRS name, Auricle Communications):
“I give the sum of _________ dollars ($______.00) to Auricle Communications (WFMU), P.O. Box 2011, Jersey City, NJ 07303, for its general purposes.”
“I give ____ percent ( __%) of my estate to Auricle Communications (WFMU), P.O. Box 2011, Jersey City, NJ 07303, for its general purposes.”
If you’ve already prepared a will but wish to add WFMU to your list of beneficiaries, there’s no need to re-write the entire document. Your attorney can help you prepare a short amendment to your will, called a codicil, which will add the new provision. Similarly, your attorney can help you write up a short amendment to your trust to add WFMU.
