SIGCSE 2026 reminded us why educators are at the center of the future of software development, especially in this age of generative AI.
At SIGCSE, we had the opportunity to connect with educators through several sessions designed to be practical, hands-on, and forward-looking. Our full-day GitHub workshop provided participants with ready-to-use materials, curated learning resources, and guidance on the next steps for learning and teaching with GitHub. In our session on agentic AI, we explored emerging patterns shaping modern software development, including agents, Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, and the evolving capabilities of GitHub Copilot. We also had the opportunity to participate in a panel on Ways to Make Git Easier to Teach, providing a perspective from industry alongside three educators who have each built their own tools on top of GitHub. And we shared how GitHub Education supports the broader educator ecosystem, highlighting our programs, products, and community initiatives at our session on cultivating the educator community.
It is clear how much educators rely on GitHub to succeed in the classroom. Each interaction was impactful and thought-provoking with teachers exploring AI use in education, building tools to make Git and GitHub easier to teach, and discussing the future of computer science.
We were also thrilled to announce two exclusive partnerships transforming how educators teach computer science and supporting coding assignments, distributing starter code, and automating grading within the GitHub ecosystem: Codio, our exclusive commercial partner, and Fifty Foundation (David J. Malan), our exclusive open source partner. Codio provides turnkey solutions with enterprise-level support and LMS integrations, while Fifty Foundation offers open source flexibility backed by a GitHub-cultivated educator community.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by and said hello at the Expo Hall, participated in our sessions and engaged in meaningful conversations. We leave energized and excited in the direction that computer science is moving with AI.
Thank you to the SIGCSE organizers, our partners, and amazing Hubber team who supported our presence at the event!
