About us
YouTube is a team-oriented, creative workplace where every single employee has a voice in the choices we make and the features we implement. We work together in small teams to design, develop, and roll out key features and products in very short time frames. Which means something you write today could be seen by millions of viewers tomorrow. And even though we’re a part of Google and enjoy all of the corporate perks, it still feels like you’re working at a startup. YouTube is headquartered in San Bruno, California, 12 miles south of San Francisco. We also have many job openings in Mountain View, and across the globe

Reflecting on an impactful few days at WAVES Summit 2025 — the media and entertainment industry’s most influential gathering — hosted in Mumbai by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting & Broadcasting and the Government of Maharashtra (GoM). As YouTube continues to champion India’s thriving creative economy, we were proud to spotlight our commitment to creators, artists, and the future of storytelling. In his keynote, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan shared key updates underscoring our continued investment in India’s creative ecosystem: ▪️ INR 21,000+ crore paid out to Indian creators, artists, and media companies over the last three years ▪️ INR 850 crore committed over the next two years to accelerate India’s position as a global “creator nation” ▪️ In India, over 100 Million channels have uploaded content in the last year. And more than 15,000 of those channels have over 1 Million subscribers. We engaged in meaningful conversations with industry leaders on the future of storytelling, the role of AI, and the opportunities ahead for India’s creators. We deepened our commitment to India’s music ecosystem, recognizing the country’s powerful role in shaping global sounds and stories. Key announcements included: ▪️ Launch of YouTube Music Night in India with a spectacular evening of performances including dynamic collaborations such as The Dharavi Dream Project x Beatpella and KING x Alan Walker. ▪️ Expansion of YouTube’s Top Music Charts to include regional languages like Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, Haryanvi, and Bhojpuri. ▪️ Ongoing support for independent creators through programs like YouTube Foundry, with the next India cohort announcement coming soon. ▪️ Demonstration of Music AI Sandbox in collaboration with Shankar Mahadevan, showcasing how AI tools can support and scale artistic creativity. India is not just participating in the global creative conversation — it’s leading it. And at YouTube, we’re proud to be part of this journey, committed to fueling India’s creative explosion. #WAVESSummit2025 #YouTubeAtWaves

We are thrilled to have participated in the inaugural WAVES Summit hosted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Government of Maharashtra (GoM) – it was a truly groundbreaking event! It's inspiring to see the undeniable momentum behind India becoming a true 'Creator Nation', driven by explosive growth in the digital content ecosystem. We're incredibly proud to be contributing to this, as Indian creators build a powerful economy through their creativity, entrepreneurship, and incredible cultural storytelling. #YouTubeAtWaves #WavesSummit2025 https://lnkd.in/gBTz4A7s
It was a privilege to join the inaugural World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Mumbai, brought to life by Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Maharashtra Chief Minister Fadnavis. Thank you to the Indian government for the invitation and warm hospitality. Throughout the back-to-back events, what really struck me is how India is rapidly becoming a “Creator Nation.” Today, India’s creator community is bigger and stronger than ever. The numbers speak volumes: over 100 million Indian channels uploaded content to YouTube last year and more than 15,000 of those channels have over 1 million subscribers. That’s more than double what it was two years ago. During my keynote address, I talked about how India’s creator economy is filled with entrepreneurs, entertainers and artists who are following their passions and building successful businesses. And these businesses are contributing directly to the country’s booming economy. In the last 3 years, YouTube paid out over ₹21,000 Crores to creators, artists and media companies across India. At YouTube, we’re deeply invested in India’s future as a global powerhouse in entertainment. Over the next two years, we’ll invest over ₹850 Crores to accelerate the growth of Indian creators, artists and media partners. And beyond numbers, we’re forging meaningful partnerships with the Ministry Of Information & Broadcasting and the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies to nurture world-class creative talent, and help share India’s diverse culture with more people around the world. YouTube’s global reach has made us a powerful engine of cultural export, and it has been amazing to see nations like India tap into this. Creators like Roshni Mukherjee of LearnoHub and artists like Arpan Kumar Chandel (better known as King) are sharing their knowledge, history, culture and passion with viewers around the world. Last year alone, content produced in India racked up 45 billion hours of watch time from viewers outside the country. I left WAVES feeling even more excited about India’s journey to become a global hub for creativity and can't wait to be back!

On May 18th, YouTube was proud to host an impactful and well-attended Primetime Emmy For Your Consideration event in support of creator-led content! Moderated by Variety’s Clayton Davis, the evening featured creators Sean Evans, Rhett & Link, and Michelle Khare discussing the evolution of their content on YouTube -- and why they believe their shows are deserving of awards prestige: 📢 “When you look at its place in culture, when you look at the guests that we have, when you look at the views, when you look at the ratings, we actually compare rather favorably to these shows that have defined this category for so long. I’m not afraid to say it, we’re absolutely deserving of that competition and of that comparison…” - Sean Evans 🎬 “The reason that I think it’s time to be recognized is the fact that we have connected with the culture in a way that traditional entertainment has been doing for a really long time. We’re not trying to replace what’s happening there, we’re trying to be invited to the party.” - Rhett McLaughlin 🏆 "When I think about awards-worthy content, when I think about some of my idols are going to be in this category with us, I think about people who fit the category but also push it to the next level. And I know for a fact that that’s what we’re doing.” - Michelle Khare

That’s a wrap on #Brandcast 2025. What an incredible evening at Lincoln Center celebrating the brands, creators and partners who have made YouTube a global stage for creativity and connection over the past 20 years. Between star power like YouTube creators Brittany Broski, iShowSpeed, Jimmy Donaldson and Sean Evans, and performances by Lady Gaga and Alex Warren, this year’s Brandcast showcased that YouTube has become the epicenter of culture and continues to transform how we watch and create entertainment. No other platform brings together the most passionate fans, most influential creators and biggest cultural moments. To help advertisers tap into this zeitgeist on YouTube, especially around major cultural moments like Black Friday, awards season, or National Football League (NFL) games, we announced a new package enabling advertisers to put brands at the heart of the moment – with brand integrations right within the content that viewers love. We also highlighted one of the biggest shifts we’re seeing: people are spending more and more time watching YouTube on their TVs than on any other device. When today’s viewers – particularly younger viewers – turn on the TV, they want to watch what matters to them, unconstrained by format, genre or style. And YouTube delivers all of this in one place. An enormous thank you to everyone who joined us in NYC to celebrate 20 years of YouTube and look ahead to the future. Until next year!

Today we’re celebrating a really special day in the history of creativity: YouTube’s 20th birthday. On April 23, 2005, the very first video was uploaded to the site - a 19-second clip aptly named “Me at the zoo.” What started as a simple video-sharing platform has grown into a force, driving culture and fundamentally reshaping how we watch and create entertainment. Today, we stand as the largest library of video content in human history, all thanks to the world's original and largest creative economy. It's a place where trends become movements, creative spirits become superstars, and sparks of inspiration become global culture. We’re celebrating today with our incredible community of creators, artists, viewers, partners and employees. Together, we’ve given rise to a whole new type of artistic voice: "the creator." We’ve pioneered the creator revenue sharing model and continue to deliver the best and most reliable experience for our viewers. We've connected people with the content and creators they love. And we've lived up to our responsibility to protect the YouTube community. Before YouTube or I were part of Google, YouTube was one of my partners at DoubleClick. I remember visiting the small but rapidly growing company above a pizza parlor in San Mateo, and seeing the promise of a platform that could give everyone a voice and show them the world. Fast forward to today and the scale and impact of the platform is beyond anything I could have imagined then. While it’s humbling to look back and see how far we’ve come, the most exciting chapter is still ahead of us. An enormous thank you to our community of employees, creators, artists, viewers, advertisers and partners – you’ve made YouTube the platform it is today and we can’t wait to define the next era of media and entertainment with you. Here’s to the next 20! ▶️ https://yt.be/20birthday
