Film Race & Basketball: Ex-NBA Star Craig Hodges Locked In Fight With Justin Baldoni’s Wayfarer Over Doc Rights
Baldoni spent much of the summer embroiled in a hushed battle with his ‘It Ends with Us’ co-star Blake Lively. Now he’s entangled in another row, this time involving race and basketball. His Wayfarer struck a deal with the two-time NBA champion to turn his 2017 book into a documentary. But Hodges has spent much of the past 12 months trying to regain rights to the project after Wayfarer shelved it. There are financial issues in play, but the skirmish also raises the question of race and who should be allowed to tell the story of a Black man like Hodges. Deadline’s Peter White breaks it all down.
