The fall film festival trifecta of Telluride, Venice and Toronto is history, so now we find ourselves staring straight into the awards-season abyss. Our Pete Hammond and Damon Wise saw and/or reviewed a slew of movies at those events and offer up their first take on the chase for the Academy Awards’ ultimate prize. Not every pic with broad Oscar potential could be included in this discussion, but here’s a look at about a dozen emerging as favorites for a nomination.
