Sidney Felsen, a cofounder of the renowned printmaking workshop Gemini G.E.L., died on June 9 at the age of ninety-nine. To pay tribute to the printmaker, Artforum revisits Barbara Rose’s 1970 essay “The Graphic Work of Jasper Johns,” which argues for the decisive role of John’s 1969 “Color Numerals” series—a portfolio of lithographs published by G.E.L.—in the development of Johns’s oeuvre.  —The editors
