👋 Hey, I am Joshua Strobl, an open source full-stack / software developer!

I have been contributing to open source since 2008 when I first installed Linux, having historically been a lead of Solus from 2015 to Jan. 2022. I founded and currently lead Buddies Of Budgie, an organization centered around building the Budgie Desktop environment / platform used around the world by tens of thousands of Linux users.

I am working at Freska as a Software Developer.

🌱 I am currently learning Rust and the DAPP / DeFi (decentralized application / finance) ecosystem (Hardhat, Waffle, ethers.js).

Volunteering

• Currently: Founder and Lead of the Buddies of Budgie open source organization, responsible for the development of the open source Budgie desktop environment.
• Volunteered as Experience Lead of Solus, a Linux-based home computing operating system, for over 7 years. I was responsible for development and support of Budgie desktop environment, maintenance of GNOME desktop environment, development of wide-range of software and libraries, community and project management.
• Improved first and third-party development of Canonical’s Ubuntu Juju cloud platform by improving important parts of documentation, including developer documentation. Expanded support for Microsoft’s Typescript by contributing files to help support the Facebook SDK and jQuery.
• Quality assurance (via bug reporting) for:
  • Mozilla’s Firefox OS project
  • Canonical’s Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system
  • Canonical’s Ubuntu desktop operating system
