I made this point directly to Modern Frontends when they were asking for speakers. I recommended they put clear details on the site. They dismissed it as something only I (and one other guy??) cared about.

A quick reminder as folks are glorifying absurd hours again:
1. Sustained crunch mode leads to net negative productivity vs. 40 hr/wk
2. Working sleep deprived leaves you as mentally impaired as being drunk
Working longer *feels* productive but it makes you worse at your job.

Eh, I decided I'm just gonna voice my feelings about Mastodon rather than being indirect about it. Hopefully, people don't feel too offended.
I think we need to be careful about how we shape social interaction within Mastodon..because right now it feels very WHITE.

Finally heading home. Windows in my train are secured with duck tape. some say it helps to protect you from glass in case the train or your house is shelled. Not protecting against cruise missiles though. Cause in that case only air defense can protect you. We don't have enough.

Modern Frontends has also provided the best example in recent memory of why, as a presenter, you cannot count on a good AV set-up.
I mean, look at that mess.
You can mitigate with big text, less text, good contrast, reference only slides, etc.

The thing that's annoying about this is that some very high profile names know exactly what's going on and have not said a word.
People have lost a lot of money. The organisers have made a lot of money.
Never forget this because it will happen again next year otherwise.

Look. It's OK to mess up; confs are super demanding to put on. But the crux is owning up to your mistakes and growing from them.
That didn't happen with . I urge to look at the critique with empathy, own up to the mistakes, and make amends.

Let's point out that even with this email to those who purchased a #ModernFrontends virtual ticket and then couldn't access a non-existent live stream... they knew when they sent this they were lying about providing recordings afterwards, BECAUSE THERE WERE NO CAMERAS. AT ALL.

If you're curious why everyone seems so mad about the modern frontends live dΓ©bΓ’cle - this was the *entire* "3,500 person" conference.
Which sponsors paid ten grand at least for stands at, and speakers paid for their own international flights and accomodation to speak at.
