Letter in the Times today from the BBC. This is why a knowledge of maths is so important. 5% is not a story. The wrong figure of 39% made the paper and is now likely to be incorrectly quoted by others as ‘fact’.

I think it's interesting that, as a group, retired journalists have wildly different views about the ethics of journalism, than working ones do. (this is based on my scientific gut sense of knowing a lot of both). Two possible explanations: 1. Working ones are forced.. 1/
