    Light to dark toned toned rock image taken by the "Left Navigation Camera onboard NASA's Mars rover Curiosity on Sol 3420" on Mars. The surface rock formations look similar to an alligator's rough scaly skin.

    The is working with NASA to study Arizona's Grand Falls dunes as analogs for Martian dunes. The Grand Falls (GF) dune field is located 70 km NE of Flagstaff, AZ. The share features commonly found on the surface.

    Happy ! Astrogeology Science Center was founded in Flagstaff, AZ because of the abundance of features analogous to extraterrestrial bodies - like the volcanoes of the San Francisco Volcanic Field. Here's an image of astronauts testing a rover at Sunset Crater

    How do Mars Rovers know what rocks are made of? In a new paper (Free until March 1), led by Astro's Ryan Anderson, the SuperCam team details how they use and lab data to estimate the chemistry of rocks on Mars by zapping them with a laser

    SuperCam laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy spectrum of the target Montdenier. Below the spectrum is a colored bar, with the length of each color corresponding to the abundance of the major element oxides: SiO2, TiO2, Al2O3, FeOT, MgO, CaO, Na2O, K2O.
