Anyone coming to the 13 Pro Max as their first Max size device? Any regrets leaving the 13 Pro or older versions of the Pro? If so, what are they?

I am on day 13 of my second attempt at a 13 Pro Max. Definitely got cold feet the first time. This time, leaning towards keeping it. Getting used to size and the larger footprint. I pickup the 13 Pro and seems small now. The Max feels more natural most times, still there’s those times picking it up and saying, this is large!

They both have so many positives. It is a difficult decision.

Good luck. Let me know what you decide. I’m back and forth multiple times a day and now in the middle of the night. Need to sleep…

Just upgraded to the 13 pro max. Had a 12 pro before this. I did have a 7 plus a while back and seemed to managed fine with it. I do have small hands and im still getting used to the larger phone. Have some pain in my left wrist. I really like having the extra real estate, my eyes aren't so great, so I can really appreciate the larger phone. I still have a week left to return, hopefully my pain goes away and my hands get used to the larger phone. I don't think I can go back to the smaller size. I sold my iPad Pro 12.9, so this new setup with 16" MacBook and 13 pro max would really make sense.

Try using a Loopy Case with the max. Holding it is effortless and drop proof with that case. You don’t actually have to hold the phone. It just rests in your palm and the loop around your finger supports it.

Have you decided?

Not really but I made a big progress: I actually don't feel that the Pro Max is (too) big or heavy. I have become used to the shape and the weight and it feels just normal. I can use it one-handed and I never thought "but it could be smaller" – neither in the pocket of my jeans! But I feel the same about the Pro: it feels also good, normal and I never thought "but it could be bigger". Finally, I would be happy with both sizes, but still I cannot decide me ;).

In the meanwhile I'm really happy that I don't want the normal 13 since I had the same decision-problem between the 13 and the 13 Pro. Dealbreaker is the ram management, overall speed and 120Hz: here the 13 Pro (Max) is just superior and this is very noticeable despite the similar processor speed! For info: the 12 Pro Max is also faster and has a better ram/memory management than the 13.

What about you/others?

Well said. Feel the exact same and haven’t decided yet. If I had to bet I’d say the Pro Max because I have not had one before but that mindset could and probably will change multiple times before tomorrow.

Just got the pop socket pop grip for MagSafe. Makes holding the 13 pro max much easier and also acts as stand in landscape mode. Works with any MagSafe case.

I actually thought the same since I would like to have something new / the Pro feels too similar to the X which I had before.

I ended up going with the 13 Pro. Just much more comfortable for me. The battery and screen were great on the Max but comfort and ease of use won out. I’m happy with my choice.

Congratulation!

I wish I made my decision too 😭.

EDIT: Since both sizes are good for me, I don't have a problem neither with a Pro Max nor with the Pro I think I will go for the Pro because it is of course more comfortable and it costs less. I don't really need the bigger screen or battery, I'm absolutely not an iPhone user. At home I can use the iPad and on the way I never thought that I would need a bigger screen – on the contrary: I ofter thought that I would love to have a smaller screen and a lighter phone.

I’ve owned both Pro sizes on the 12 and 13 series. I found that on the 13 series the Max feels more balanced vs the non-max so I use a 13 Max now. On the 12 series I felt that 12 Max was more top heavy vs the 12 non-max so the non-Max was my preferred size. Comparing the 12 Max vs 13 Max I feel the 13 Max has better weight distribution.

I do wish the weight was reduced though so unless Apple makes the 14 Pro Max with a titanium chassis I may be going to the non-pro Max model that’s rumored.

I'm facing a similar dilemma.

My current phone is an iPhone Xs Max. Before that I had a 6s Plus so I don't have a problem with the larger phones. But I went to the store today and checked out both the iPhone 13 Pro & Pro Max. Honestly, the Pro felt more comfortable to me. I hate giving up the screen real estate and battery life of the Max though although I'm not a really heavy user and the Xs Max battery has always been more than sufficient for my use. And at home I use my MBA most of the time so I don't think I will miss the larger screen all that much.

I think I'll order the Pro and give it a try. If I find I miss the larger phone I'll just return the Pro and order a Pro Max.

Having the option to test drive the devices are a huge benefit. Especially if going from larger to smaller or vice versa. Look forward to hearing what you think of the Pro. Either way, both phones are awesome!

I’m not sure I love the 6.1” form factor. It seems to be the sweet spot for the average consumer. At the same time I felt it was too small on iPhone XR and iPhone 11 coming from an iPhone 8+, while being too large for me on iPhone 13 Pro coming from iPhone SE.

It feels large and heavy enough already that I would likely step up to iPhone 13 Pro Max if I was heading in that direction.

Oddly I’m satisfied with size of iPhone 13 Mini. I don’t find it to be too small, and Apple’s done a lot to make it just as immersive and enjoyable if not even more so than iPhone 13. The slightly higher pixel density goes a long way, and Apple usually makes the smaller displays slightly more vibrant and contrasty.

I just ordered a 13 Pro and will give it a try. Since I know the 13 Pro Max will be pretty similar to my Xs Max, just little larger, I should be able tell if I like it or not pretty quickly. And you are right, being able to return it and get the other model does take a lot of the stress away.

I had gone thru the same dilema with 11 Pro / 11 Pro Max. I had X at that time and everyone talked me into going with the bigger phone, so I got the 11 Pro Max. After few weeks of wow factor, I started to regret it more and more. I dealt with it for 2 years, and could not wait to get a smaller phone. I am very happy with 13 Pro now. Unless I have vision needs, I will stick with smaller size phone.

Ended up returning the 13 pro max. Was just too heavy and uncomfortable for long periods of time. I’m glad I tried it. I wish they made something in between the 13 pro and the pro max. Or if they could make the pro max more narrower and lighter, similar to the Samsung s21 ultra.
