Ah yes, that is what the lightbox is supposed to do. I was hoping to see *less* when I tapped on the image.

I’m always surprised to find that one guy on Hacker News who likes C++/CX. Like, everyone else hates on Microsoft for making their own dialect of C++. Perhaps rightly so. Not that guy! He loved the weird non-cross-platform language only supported by 0.8 whole compilers.

"What is CI/CD?"
Ah, it stands for Continuous Integration/Continuous Disintegration. It's a streamlined process where you continuously integrate your changes into a branch pushed to the server and the build blows right the fuck up, automatically with minimal developer time spent!

if I have to pay for my Gmail does that mean I’ll finally stop being the product?

Missouri seems to be testing it's emergency "blue alert" system. No clue what it is but I'm already annoyed by it.
Amber alert I get, what's blue alert?

I wonder how we will square our company mission with Bobby Kotick’s tacit support of sexual misconduct. Right now it looks like it’ll be by allowing him to “focus on efforts to further strengthen the company’s culture.” 🤔

The Landscape PowerBook G4 joined the G4 Cube as a one-off classic in the early 2000s. Well-kept examples fetch high prices on eBay.

#Crow_personalities - crow gang playing crow-ball with the "crow of the year" award egg for VIC G'schupfter Ferdl.
They were too many, poor Ferdl had to back off.

Also included is libarchive/bsdtar 3.5.2! There's a number of bug- and correctness fixes, and on Windows 11 you'll still have bzip2 support (which we weren't able to get backported to Windows 10.)

FYI: The Windows Jan '22 cumulative updates (incl. Server 2016) include cURL 7.79.1, which is a huge update from the inbox 7.55. As I mentioned in twitter.com/DHowett/status, we're going to try to be better about staying up to date in the future. Thanks for the patience! /cc

Replying to @DHowett @bagder and @Microsoft
All that to say: I’m sorry, and we’ll do better in the future. As a huge fan of curl, I was so happy to see it end up in Windows… and now as the owner of that integration, I’m compelled to make sure we’re doing it *right*. Thanks for everything!

very impressed with how civilized qt6 + cmake is. no weird inscrutable solution file, and the only xml I need is actual product code...

Is this too heavy-handed?

Anyone here navigated EV code signing as an open-source developer without a company? I've got a kernel mode driver to sign¹, and not much ability to do that.
¹ It unfortunately can't be UMDF, so that EV cert is critical.

Our new paper, led by , finds that Mimas, a little satellite of Saturn, can have an ocean under the icy surface! In it, we introduce a "Zipper Plot", which shows all the possible shell thicknesses and their basal heat requirements. We also predict surface heat flux!

This isn’t unique to APFS, either. HFS+ did it too. Yet, I have NTFS disks that don’t develop issues on any machine, not to mention ext4/others, and have been fine for a decade.
Mac users can’t have nice things, even when the shiny new filesystem is supposed to be “nice”.

I don’t *care* that your spaceman trees or whatever are corrupted and that you cannot possibly progress under any circumstances; you need to be able to recover from it. It’s not like we can’t scan and rebuild the data. But no, you’re the best we’ve got.

macOS is the only modern operating system I’ve used that encounters uncorrectable filesystem corruption—even with APFS, and across a wide range of hardware—routinely. Symptoms are always the same: fsck says (1) it can’t fix it and (2) everything is just peachy. It is not peachy.

Is there a (preferably CLI) tool that takes a description of a binary format and a file in that format and produces a human-readable dump? I'm guessing there is, but I can't hit the right search terms.

Update: it doesn’t work! The firmware doesn’t respect DriverOrder (which, as an optional part of the spec, I get) or load drivers from the ESP.

You’ve got to build it and sign it yourself, and then add it to DriverOrder and Driver#### yourself, but then it works great! Nobody’s really going to trust my signing identity :D
