I’m always surprised to find that one guy on Hacker News who likes C++/CX. Like, everyone else hates on Microsoft for making their own dialect of C++. Perhaps rightly so. Not that guy! He loved the weird non-cross-platform language only supported by 0.8 whole compilers.

I wonder how we will square our company mission with Bobby Kotick’s tacit support of sexual misconduct. Right now it looks like it’ll be by allowing him to “focus on efforts to further strengthen the company’s culture.” 🤔

FYI: The Windows Jan '22 cumulative updates (incl. Server 2016) include cURL 7.79.1, which is a huge update from the inbox 7.55. As I mentioned in twitter.com/DHowett/status, we're going to try to be better about staying up to date in the future. Thanks for the patience! /cc

All that to say: I’m sorry, and we’ll do better in the future. As a huge fan of curl, I was so happy to see it end up in Windows… and now as the owner of that integration, I’m compelled to make sure we’re doing it *right*. Thanks for everything!

Anyone here navigated EV code signing as an open-source developer without a company? I've got a kernel mode driver to sign¹, and not much ability to do that. ¹ It unfortunately can't be UMDF, so that EV cert is critical.

This isn’t unique to APFS, either. HFS+ did it too. Yet, I have NTFS disks that don’t develop issues on any machine, not to mention ext4/others, and have been fine for a decade. Mac users can’t have nice things, even when the shiny new filesystem is supposed to be “nice”.

I don’t *care* that your spaceman trees or whatever are corrupted and that you cannot possibly progress under any circumstances; you need to be able to recover from it. It’s not like we can’t scan and rebuild the data. But no, you’re the best we’ve got.

macOS is the only modern operating system I’ve used that encounters uncorrectable filesystem corruption—even with APFS, and across a wide range of hardware—routinely. Symptoms are always the same: fsck says (1) it can’t fix it and (2) everything is just peachy. It is not peachy.
