Fifty-three years ago, the
#Apollo 8 astronauts looked back at Earth from another world for the first time. Tomorrow,@NASA is set to launch a new space telescope to#UnfoldTheUniverse. Even as we reach into the cosmos, we keep an eye turned toward home. https://go.nasa.gov/2xNEc22 pic.twitter.com/4vVUHXGzwQ

Are you up for the challenge? Use the comments section to tell us where it is, what we are looking at, and why it is interesting. In particular, this month, what is the golden line/streak across the image? https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/blogs/earthmatters/2021/12/21/eo-december-puzzler/ …pic.twitter.com/WOpPyROXss

Small, mighty, & leading the way. COWVR & TEMPEST, instruments headed to the
@Space_Station, are designed to make the same observations as weather satellites many times their size. If successful, weather forecasting could be in for a technological boost. https://go.nasa.gov/3smBrSD pic.twitter.com/HtrFAGaUmp

CYGNSS turned five this month! It began as a two-year mission to study how well GPS signals reflected from the ocean surface can help us measure the winds in hurricanes and improve our ability to forecast them. Where are we now? https://go.nasa.gov/3sj81VH

And speaking of spin, this week
@NASAWebb is borrowing a boost from Earth’s rotation during launch from Kourou, French Guiana. From the facility's location near the Equator, Earth’s rotation will give the rocket an extra 460 meters per second of speed. https://go.nasa.gov/3Ja2kiW pic.twitter.com/7e2Gomxilw

It’s the solstice — the first day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere! Earth spins around a tilted axis, making a complete turn each day. Solstices happen twice per year, at the points in Earth’s orbit where this tilt is most pronounced.
