G'day!
My name's Tim Oliver and I'm a West Australian currently living in Tokyo, Japan. Last year, I worked at Mercari as an iOS Tech Lead, and previously was at Realm as a Cocoa Product Engineer.
I've been a big fan of contributing to open source, and I've been publishing repositories for a lot of the components out my side project apps since 2013. I believe open source improves the speed and quality of software, gives back to the community, and simply helps so many developers in their goals of changing the world faster.
Things I Do
- I really enjoy building my own side-apps. At the moment, I'm focusing on a DRM-free comic reader app.
- Included in that, I enjoy separating out and open sourcing the components I've built in the process for those apps.
- My main open source project is an image cropping library for iOS that ended up powering apps by companies including Google, Sony and Adobe.
- I regularly present at iOS conferences and meetups and have done so around the world in places including Italy, Canada, the USA, Australia, Denmark and Japan.
Why GitHub Sponsors?
I really enjoy releasing my work as open source since it has the opportunity to benefit so many like-minded developers. But that being said, there's certainly a level of overhead involved in running an open source project, and the more popular they become, the harder it is to keep up.
With GitHub Sponsors, this will let me prioritise and invest more of my time to open source and the improvement and expansion of all of my public repos. I would eventually like to be able to dedicate all of my time to doing this sort of stuff, and this is certainly a massive step in that direction.
Thanks so much for your consideration! Have a good one!
