Standard Notes is a free, open-source, and end-to-end encrypted notes app available on most platforms including the Web, macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android.

Why Standard Notes?

Standard Notes is a privacy-focused notes app that offers a clean and simple user interface with fast and free sync on unlimited devices. The apps, syncing server, themes, and editors are all free and open-source under AGPL-3.0 and are self-hostable.

We have a variety of dark and light themes. Our editors support GitHub flavored markdown, simple tasks, 2FA authenticator, and rich text editing. Standard Notes is extensible, so developers can build their own custom editors, themes, and components.

You can also publish a blog from your notes app with Listed.

We are funded by Standard Notes Extended, our subscription service for cloud backups, note history, two-factor authentication, hosted editors, themes, folders, autocomplete tags, and more.

Almost all of our funds are used to pay team members for their work and for our server infrastructure. We also pay for developer tools (e.g., GitHub.com, Sentry.io, Figma.com) and independent security audits.
