Formed in 2009, the Archive Team (not to be confused with the archive.org Archive-It Team) is a rogue archivist collective dedicated to saving copies of rapidly dying or deleted websites for the sake of history and digital heritage. The group is 100% composed of volunteers and interested parties, and has expanded into a large amount of related projects for saving online and digital history.
Git LFSは、リポジトリに実際のファイルではなく、ファイルへの参照を保存することで大きなファイルを扱います。 Gitのアーキテクチャを回避するために、Git LFSは実際のファイル（これはどこか別の場所に保存されます）への参照として働くポインタファイルを作成します。 GitHub Enterpriseはこのポインタファイルをリポジトリ中で管理します。 リポジトリをクローンすると、GitHub Enterpriseはこのポインタファイルを大きなファイルを見つけるための地図として使います。
Using Git LFS, you can store files up to 5 GB in your repository.

ポインタファイルのフォーマット
Git LFSのポインタファイルは以下のようになっています。

これは、使用しているGit LFSのversionを追跡し、その後にファイルのユニークな識別子（oid）が続きます。 また、最終のファイルのsize も保存します。
Tip：Git LFSはGitHub Pagesサイトと使うことはできません。
