when browsing, i should be able to perf-check right from the browser and results should be siphoned back to the extension.

Very good idea. I'll learn about firefox's headless mode, may be supported in the future

thanks. one clean way could be port this from a script based setup to RESTful service. once thats done, extension would just be a client for this API(s).
