    conda environments with are quite large. I had a look at the "why?" and could reduce the size by roughly 50%: This has the nice side effect that of making basic python=3.8 conda environments also 36% smaller, benefitting the whole ecosystem.

    Here's an online site where you can explore trends in majors from 1966-2019 at any university in the US. . Thanks to some advances from / I can experiment with shipping the entire dataset over the wire. sample NYU data below.

    Google for example depends on for dealing with Parquet files in multiple Google products but has yet to fund Parquet development in any significant way. One Arrow developer from Google helps with it in his free time

    I can say from my end it’s been stunning to see how much technical talent the DL ecosystem has hoovered up in recent years, meanwhile there is a ton of fundamental computational work that affects everyone that is being underfunded

    I’m OK with this, can we get some more people helping with the boring stuff (data frame libraries, dealing with file formats)?

    I think it's clear that for many smaller companies that invested in deep learning, it turned out not to be essential and got cut post-Covid as part of downsizings. There are somewhat fewer people doing deep learning now than half a year ago, for the first time since at least 2010

    We just merged initial support into . Now you can run efficiently run arbitrary on Arrow tables and convert back. example: duckdb.arrow(my_arrow_table).query("a", "SELECT * FROM a").arrow()

    Update: Fi has fixed the phantom audio call bug but now SMS/Hangouts integration is broken (yes, I've checked that it's enabled in the Hangouts/Fi integration).

    Seems like Google Fi is going down the drain. About 2 weeks ago started getting phantom Hangouts audio calls from Unknown after right after picking up a call, very annoying. Spent over an hour with their chat support and they finally said "Unfortunately, we can't help you"
