    We devoted much of Sunday to the climate change moment we are all living through ... leading with this vital story about how so much of the misery California is now facing come from one thing: A hotter planet.

    We condemn the arrest of / reporter Josie Huang, who was doing a job protected under the First Amendment. Journalists have the right to inform the public. That includes coverage of every aspect of a protest in public spaces, including police interaction with citizens.

    It’s been quite a year for the reporting National and Foreign team, risking life and limb darting from one erupting fire to the next across national and international borders. Here’s the latest example, from *there* bringing readers stories of triumph and loss.

    Journalism is a team effort. From the reporter, to the photojournalist, to the photo editors - desk editors - designers - copy editors and so much more. The phrase “it takes a village” couldn’t be more true. Communication between all the moving parts is absolutely key.

    I'm all for great photos, and produced stunners for this tension-filled narrative. But photos can give away plot points. designers carefully placed Kent's art, online and in print, to maintain tension about a key character.

    I wish I loved anything as much as David Remnick loves withholding basic labor protections from his employees.

    Bargaining update: / management is still pushing back against just cause. The company wants “the right to determine, in its sole discretion, whether an employee’s conduct or performance warrants discipline.”
