Elizabeth Public Schools is canceling plans to observe spring recess and has officially revised the 2019-2020 school calendar. The Elizabeth Board of Education voted unanimously last night to continue to hold school virtually Tuesday, April 14, through Friday, April 17. Elizabeth Forum 100 Years
On May 24, The Historical Society of Elizabeth conducted a forum on the city’s past and present in the Elizabeth Public Library. Students from Winfield Scott School No. 2, Joseph Battin School No. 4, John E. Dwyer Technology Academy, Elizabeth High School – Frank J. Cicarell Academy, Admiral William F. Halsey, Jr. Health and Public Safety Academy, and Thomas Jefferson Arts Academy participated in a discussion focused on Elizabeth in both 1917 and 2017, comparing what life was like during these two periods of time, including the concept of community, the impact of immigrants and of World War I on the community’s function and day-to-day living, and the process of civic engagement within the city shaping the development of local civic organizations.
