For the #Apollo50th, we’re comparing iconic Apollo images of Earth, like Apollo 17’s Blue Marble, with today’s weather satellites’ view. See how the original Blue Marble compares to Suomi-NPP’s below. In the 1960s and 1970s, when weather satellites were still in their infancy, Apollo missions provided the highest resolution images of Earth and made great contributions to our understanding of our home planet. Today, weather satellites like NOAA-20 and Suomi-NPP have greatly improved on those early images, and continue to help humanity understand weather and the environment. Thanks, Apollo, for the legacy of Earth observation and knowledge!
