With a coupon code, you can apply a discounted (or free!) private plan to your account.
Note: Only organization members with the owner or billing manager role can access or change billing settings for your organization.
There are two types of coupons available:
Plan-specific coupons can only be applied to specific accounts. For example, if the coupon grants a Bronze plan, it can only be applied to an organization.
Discount coupons are not tied to any specific plan or account. For example, a $25 off coupon can be applied to your personal account (which would get you a free Medium user plan), or an organization (which would give you a free Bronze plan). If you use a discount coupon on a Gold plan, you would end up paying $75 instead of the normal $100.
Applying the coupon
Warning: GitHub can't issue a refund if you pay for an account before applying a coupon. We also can't transfer a redeemed coupon or give you a new coupon if you apply it to the wrong account. Be certain you are applying the coupon to the correct account before you proceed.
- Visit the Redeem Coupon page.
- In the Enter Coupon Code box, type your coupon code and click Redeem.
- If you're not already signed in, you can sign in on this page, or create a new account to apply your coupon to.
- On the Redeem Coupon page, click Choose next to the organization you want to apply the coupon to. If you'd like to apply your coupon to a new organization that doesn't exist yet, click Create a new organization.
- Under Choose your plan, verify the type of plan you want to apply the coupon to. Your current plan is already selected, but if you have a discount coupon, you can choose to upgrade your plan and apply the discount to that new upgrade.
After you've verified the correct plan type, click Redeem.
