Memoirs in My Suitcase (2)

“The suitcase means hope for an immigrant. We do not put it away under the bed or in a storage space. We keep it right before our eyes so that our hope stays alive.”

This short film highlights the lives and experiences of Turkish migrant workers in Western Europe, particularly first-generation ‘guest workers’ living in Germany through the 1960s and 1970s. Film reproduced courtesy of DiasporaTürk, in conjunction with the Pitt Rivers Museum’s exhibition ‘Memoirs in My Suitcase’ (10 December 2019 to 31 May 2020, extended to 20 September 2021).
