OOC: Character Application

Name: Rodolphus Jarl Lestrange
House: Slytherin
Age: 15
Year: Fifth

Sexuality: Mostly straight. Rodolphus likes pretty things, whether they be men, women, or even from a humanoid species.
Nationality: English
Ethnicity: British (white) / Palestinian
Bloodline/Lineage: Pureblood Human
Birthday: January 21st, 1960

Wand: Poplar, Dragon Heartstring, 12 1/2"
Pet: Dacian, an aging yet fierce Peregrine Falcon given to him on his sixth birthday. The Lestrange family has long practised falconry - Rodolphus' father, and his father before him, are highly experienced falconers - and it is tradition to purchase such a raptor for their children at a young age. While well-behaved out on the field catching prey, Dacian is much more stubborn when it comes to being kept in-doors or worse - having to deliver the post. Much to the chagrin of his owner, Dacian will vandalise other students' mail and even harass other birds when bored in the Owlery.
Family: Rabastan Lestrange {brother}; Rufin Lestrange {father}; Ameerah Lestrange (née Elzayed) {mother}; Rhadamanthus Lestrange {grandfather}.
Boggart: His grandfather. In his entire lifetime Rodolphus has probably only seen the man twice, as he stays locked up in his room on the top floor of the Lestrange Manor, withering away and concocting strange experiments. He absolutely despises him for what he's done to the family, but he can't help but be frightened of him, both in appearance (he's scary!) and for his beastly ways.
Patronus: Boar. He claims it has something to do with courage and stuff.
Play By: Faris Badwan

Quidditch: Chaser
Prefect: No.
Other Extra Curricular: He has little time outside regular school activities and Quidditch practise, but he is rather fond of attending Chess Club.
Planned Future Career: He's always dreamt of playing Quidditch professionally for the national team, but has his eyes on the Wimbourne Wasps or Tutshill Tornados, two of his favourite English teams.

Abilities: Rodolphus has a knack for aspects of healing magic, whether it be spells or potions, although he'd rather not let anyone know about that. Coming from a long line of rather twisted and power-hungry pureblooded Wizards, not only is he well-learned in the standard factions of magic (Charms, Transfiguration, and so forth), but old magic and the Dark Arts were a substantial part of his upbringing as well.
Strengths: Quidditch! Whilst his family looks down upon the rough sport, he's been playing for years and excels in the Beater and Chaser positions. No small wonder he plays for the Slytherin team.
Weaknesses: His mouth. He has a problem keeping it shut. It likes to make wise-crack remarks and crude jokes that get him into trouble with figures of authority, family, and friends alike.

Personality: Like all Slytherins, Rodolphus is initially considered to have the reputation of being arrogant, wealthy, and Machiavellian. However, he's actually something of an exhibitionist. He's lively and exuberant, and likely to be at the centre of attention one way or another; whether it's good or bad is of little consequence to him. He loves to be around people as long as he can keep them interested - through such immature acts as pranks, silly voices, and other outlandish behaviour.

In spite of his somewhat magnetic and easy-going nature, he doesn't seem to make friends easily and has a harder time keeping them. Sarcasm – he speaks it like it's a second language and resorts to it in most situations without thinking, even when he doesn’t necessarily mean to. He has a tendency to appear condescending to others and often brushes people off if they don't immediately have some sort of appeal. In fact, if they don't find his jokes absolutely hilarious or go along with his devious schemes, he can become downright moody and dismiss them. Yes, he really is that egotistical. But once he does decide that someone is worthy of his friendship, he becomes fiercely loyal and will do everything in his power to protect and defend them.

His worst trait is his temper. It generally doesn't have a chance to present itself, and he may just express his discontent in a tense, threatening silence or rude remarks, but at times he can have a very volatile nature which erupts in bouts of a combination of shouting, cursing, and physical violence.

History: For many centuries the Lestrange family has resided in an impressive manor on their countryside estate in the south of England. They have always been considered a prominent and wealthy family, moreso because they are one of the rare pureblood lines still in existence in the Wizarding community, and value that purity above all else.

That is, until, Rhadamanthus Lestrange ran the estate into such excess that Rufin, his son and Rodolphus' father, had spent most of his life trying to solve the debt lest it fall onto his unfortunate son. The Lestrange family was indeed not as well-off as appearances would have led to believe, and Ameerah refused to use any of her family's vast fortune to repay the debt, insisting that it would only be used for rearing their children. Rodolphus himself was not made of aware of such a fact (he discovered it on his own in his third year) and his family tried their best to maintain their extravagant lifestyle so that none of their peers would suspect that they may be destitute.

So it was into quite a comfortable life that both Rodolphus and his younger brother, Rabastan, were born into: daily lessons in falconry, horsemanship, Dark Arts and old magic, personal tutors in the arcane. Fine and lavish robes made every month. Servants to come running at your every whim and fancy. And all of it was absolutely boring.

It was at such a young age, before attending Hogwarts, that Rodolphus begun to venture into the nearby Muggle towns. The exposure was incredible. Rather than be disgusted at their mundane way of living, as his family had taught him to think of Muggles, he quickly begun to adopt their habits and manners of speech, playing games with Muggle children, even dressing in their attire. His family sought to put a stop to this, but it was never something he could shake entirely. Wizards were lazy and used magic to do everything. Muggles, on the other hand, found ways to live their lives completely wand-free and actually got off their arses. Even as he fell into old habits and began to slightly resent their non-magical counterparts, deep down he still held some respect for the people.

Appearance: The first two notable things about Rodolphus are that he is incredibly tall and incredibly thin, traits that he thankfully picked up from his Lestrange side, as his mother's family is notoriously short and rather squat. In fact, he stands at an impressive 6'6" when he's not slouching around horribly. It gives him a slightly skeletal appearance, as everything about him appears angular and stretched vertically - long legs and arms, long face, long hands.

The third notable thing is that he looks utterly snobbish. Without realising it, he looks at people like they're something unpleasant he found stuck to the bottom of his shoe. He naturally has a look of haughtiness to his face, which seems to offend people, though he does quite a good job of that consciously as he usually wears a sneer or is busy giving someone an icy stare if he's found them annoying enough.

His wild, wavy, and unusually fair brown hair spends most of its time occupying the space in front of his face, which is where he'd like it to stay. It covers up a much hated prominent, curved nose which has earned him more than a handful of nasty remarks in his lifetime.

Despite his thin, delicate build and the sickly tinge in his dusky skin, Rodolphus is full of energy and devotes much of his time to sports (a natural at Quidditch!) and the outdoors. He's even gone into the city to dabble in Muggle sports in spite of his fine pureblooded heritage, simply because he loves to be physically active and get a little dirty. He's also very capable of holding his own in a fight, and is just as well-known for getting into scrapes as he is for little Wizarding duels between classes.

Outside of his school uniform his doesn't don the expensive robes his family provides for him, or the general attire Wizarding folk do, as he finds it rather ridiculous looking. He'd much rather wear trousers all the time. But he is in a position to dress in "all his best" and has two modes - an extensive tailored wardrobe his mother bought for him with a leaning toward dandy and Edwardian fashion, which consists of dark-coloured shirts, waistcoats, black drainpipes, and his normal-wear, something like jeans and ratty T-shirts when he wants to sneak off to play a bit of football and get muddy.
