Boden and creative partner Ryan Fleck joined the billion-dollar club in 2019 with “Captain Marvel,” also notable as the first female-led superhero movie to reach that box-office milestone. It was an unlikely turn for the longtime writing-directing team, previously known for indie features “Half Nelson” (2006), “Sugar” (2008), “It’s Kind of a Funny Story” (2010) and “Mississippi Grind” (2015), as well as for helming episodes of Showtime’s “The Affair” and “Billions.” Marvel chief Kevin Feige, who has an instinct for tapping talent about to break out, said then he believed they could make the character journey in “Marvel” worthy of the spectacle. Currently, they’re helming the intro episodes and producing FX’s upcoming limited series “Mrs. America,” about Phyllis Schlafly’s 1970s battle against the ERA.
