About

URA is located in Brussels and is characterized by a broad spectrum of projects, varied both in scale and function. 'UR'-the name of the first city- supports a way of working. URA searches for universal, basic typologies and transforms them into a contemporary and precise identity in a specific context. The universal lies within the very specific. URA is led by two partners, Yves Malysse and Kiki Verbeeck.

GRAZ

March 2024

URA Yves Malysse Kiki Verbeeck is invited to the Faculty of Architecture In Graz, Austria as speaker for the upcoming Graz Architecture Lectures 2024, from15 – 17 april 2024.

A common theme is developed with a call to students, lecturers and the entire professoriate to submit proposals in line with the theme: Celebrating Collectivity!

In all civilizations where there is the practice of sobriety or frugality , there is always a period of celebration from time to time, frugality must be compensated for with celebration, otherwise it is austerity and it becomes unbearable for humans. - Edgar Morin

An invitation to step out of our comfort zone and have the courage in architecture to face the challenges around us together. We want to give our spatial discipline back its social relevance by exchanging ideas with courageous designers, activists and thinkers in our disciplines. The topics will be serious: resources, uncertainty, ecology, social justice ... but the discussion will be festive!

The event is organized by the Faculty of Architecture with the support of the Institute of Architecture and Landscape and the Institute of Urbanism.

BZR S

March 2024

Within the Ravenstein circuit of galleries designed by architect Victor Horta, the new scenography by URA Yves Malysse & Kiki Verbeeck provides a dualistic support for the artworks in the exhibition. Ordered but with variety, it works systematically yet disrupts the spaces. It physically distances itself from the surrounding architecture, but paradoxically also occupies it. Through the succession of exhibition galleries, you are invited to wander randomly around the elements, tracing an instinctive slalom. Due to the multiplicity of elements, predefined visual links alternate with fortuitous discoveries, offering each of you a unique experience.

We were inspired in our design by the Surrealists’ desire to disorientate and disturb established patterns of thinking and seeing. We also considered Magritte’s exploration of the interaction and tension between words and images and proposed to the curators to present all the artworks on the temporary walls, using the permanent, surrounding walls only for text.

The scenography is constructed as a kit of wooden walls and panels. In times of conscious use of materials, these elements will be integrally dismantled after the exhibition, and incorporated into one or more construction projects.

Come and visit our expo in the Bozar in Brussels, till the 16th of June 2024.

“The school combines both re-use and new construction in a dense urban block, being aware and taking care of the spaces of proximity between the neighbours and also between the two school buildings. The project multiplies the character of exploration and surprise of getting inside a city block, and this intensity influences the different interior spaces, offering a rich and careful sequence of changes in dimension and natural light dedicating a different atmosphere to the different daily situations that are developed in this school.” - jury member Eva Prats (Flores y Prats Arquitectos)
