    +1 but a lot of people would argue there is more likely to be a gain in flexibility and development time using something like python or perl vs. shell, not a loss. I would say only use a shell script if it's necessitated, or what you are doing involves a copious amount of shell specific commands. Commented Mar 6, 2013 at 16:47
